Her bridesmaids dress is Apple Red, so we got her some ballet flats and had them dyed to match; thus, ruby slippers!

Hmmm.....I’d say put them in the garage. That way they won’t freeze during the winter.

We can see Jackson Silver doing that; Annie, well, she’s more likely to just order out.

We’ll vote with Suziq and Overtaxed. That’s also a heap of plantin’ in the spring.

Yeah, I know. I just ran out of time. I was going to plant them Thanksgiving week and it monsooned. Then we had the show, so I was going to put them in the ground this week.

Currently, I can't ~find~ the ground.

I'll put them in pots next week and put them in the garage. Do I need to put them in the ground in the spring? Or can they wait until fall?

Seriously, the only thing I'd use one of those .25s for is for trading stock, or as a throwdown piece. The best were the Colt/Browning/FN .25s, but they all vanished in 1968 or earlier. They were quality handguns, but the round itself lacked power to be a serious killer. You'd do better with something in .22lr.

There are some expensive .32s out there by Sig and Beretta, but that's as small as I'd go, and even then just as a backup piece. We all laugh at the US government for buying things from the lowest bidder. We don't want to make the same mistake ourselves with something this important.

Even if the handgun was flawless, and sometimes you can make one of them work with 95% reliability, the round itself is a disqualifier. However, the word cheap would encourage me to buy several different brands just to play around with, and then turn into throwdown items.

I want something that gives me confidence, not more worries.

okey-doke

I took MrsEx to her first gun show Saturday. Saw some S&W .38s I’d think about for her, but the least of them— a Mdl 10 Victory in pretty good shape— was $295, and the ones she sort of liked— snubby AirWeights with pink parts— were $450 to $495. Out of reach of us “werkin’ poo-wer”. OTOH, a couple wee semi-autos caught my eye for $120 or less— hence the question.

I did some research, and one effective solution for you might be a military surplus Makarov. Not only are a lot of them arriving as surplus from the ex-sov bloc, but some countries are even making them new for the American market. The 9x18mm Makarov round is a bit unusual in the US, up until now. Makarov-types can be easily rebarreled into .380ACP (9mm kurz in western Europe), but I believe the new Polish commercial production will come already set up for .380. That could save the cost of a new barrel.

About the only problem with the ammo is that it's a bit less powerful than the average .38 Special, but still very good for defensive work. The other drawback for now is that .380 is in vey short supply because ammo makers are producing the more popular calibers due to the inspired salesmanship of The One.

I also found a web site that talks a lot about defensive handguns, and tests a lot of stuff out. One topic is "best buys in handguns" and it talks about keeping a handgun in the $200 range using a used/surplus S&W Model 10, or Makarov.

If you shop for a surplus Makarov, hold out for an East German one. A number of people say they are works of art. The Russian model is the crudest.

I wouldn’t disturb them until after they’ve bloomed so I would have to say fall.

At least wait until all the leaves have died back.

And JacksonSilver! The officepeople came by, let him out and left. I saw him huddled on the porch and brought him in, poor thing. The officepeople knew I would.

Dang, I wish they treated him better.
