More than five years after she was abducted from Oregon State University and presumed killed, the remains of Brooke Wilberger have been found and her suspected killer has pleaded guilty.
Joel Patrick Courtney faced a possible death sentence when he went to trial next February in Benton County for aggravated murder in Wilberger's death. But today, after a change of venue to Marion County Circuit Court, Courtney, a 43-year-old native of unincorporated Washington County, entered a plea of guilty and was sentenced to prison for life with no possibility of release.
As a part of the plea agreement, Benton County District Attorney John M. Haroldson obtained clues that helped locate and recover Wilberger's remains. Authorities are withholding details of where -- and what -- they found until a 4 p.m. press conference in Corvallis.
Wilberger, 19, disappeared on May 24, 2004, while she was working a summer job at a Corvallis apartment house after completing her freshman year at Brigham Young University.

Very sad. Glad they got the guy and her family can have a little bit of closure. Too bad he didn’t get the death penalty considering he has attacked other young women.
It’s good that Brooke Wilberger’s remains have been found but a shame this monster will not be executed.

This scum raped a girl in Albuquerque, I was in the jury pool called for his trial, but was dismissed. I told the judge I couldn’t be impartial, and was familiar with his suspected involvement with this case.
It would be nice to think I put the fear in him, he pled guilty to the rape the same day.
That freed things up for his extradition to Oregon.
Amazing to me that someone like this creep can commit a rape, murder again and again and yet can do a plea bargain in order to tell everything. So, he murders, rapes and then sits in the drivers seat too. It’s disgusting. He should fry!!!

Death penalty for rape should be the law, if not, cutting ‘it’ off will suffice. This has to stop.
He didn’t look so arrogant in court in NM in waist chain and leg irons.
Promise them anything to get the information, then allow them to have fatal "accidents" in prison.
Just send him down to Gitmo and tell the peaceful ROP followers that he renounced Islam and would not think of having relations with goats.

OMG Every time I come through Corvallis to home on the coast I got an eerie/sick feeling about the field and stainless steel drainage pipe across from that park/fairgrounds.
I never stopped praying that her family could lay her to rest and now the day is here.
It just happened to close to home, the creep was due in our city the day he took her life on a court appearance.
She was such a beautiful lil gal with her WHOLE innocent life of goals ahead of her.
May God Rest her soul.

For some reason (perhaps I am to emotionally involved with this so close to home) I dont see a life sentence that will give him time to ask for true repentance..but I am drivin in this instance by human nature.

There is a particular Judge that is now retired that I wish had stuck around just a bit longer to hand down sentence on this creep.
Is the other state he was found guilty in a no death penalty state too?
We had the most awful case here on the Oregon Coast...that guy is living like a pimp in his 24/7 cell for life.
