DANBURY, Conn. (AP) - Mary Travers, one-third of the hugely popular 1960s folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, has died.
The band's publicist, Heather Lylis, says Travers died at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut on Wednesday. She was 72 and had battled leukemia for several years.
Travers joined forces with Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey in the early 1960s.

Was this the guy that Ruth Buzzi often hit with her purse.
In 1968, I was having relations with a minor that I later married.
Swayze was #1. Gibson was #2. Travers was #3.
yahoo news said she was 63
I don't know Paul's politics but it was *Peter* who did time for statutory rape.Got a pardon from the clown from Plains himself.Plus he's a filthy Maoist to this day.
I can listen to Peter, Paul, and Mary and enjoy the artistry and beauty of their harmonies while discounting their woefully misguided but undoubtedly sincere politics.
Mary Travers had a wonderful voice. Her passing leaves me feeling sad and a bit emptier.
I think that Arte Johnson was Ruth's target. Henry Gibson often did soulful poetry readings on "Laugh In", holding a flower. He was hilarious.
Prayers for Mary Travers and her family.
I was fourteen when I first heard “If I Had a Hammer”. Never knew it had anything to do with racial equality. Heck, I was a fan of Dr. King in 1963; my black classmates were amazed to hear me reel off his complete name and title and his “I have a dream” theme.
Anyway, at the time my version of IIHAH went thus:
“If I had a gun, I’d shoot it in the morning, I’d shoot it in the evening, all over this land,
“I’d shoot about justice, I’d shoot about freeeeeedom, I’d shoot about the love between my NRA brothers & sisters, all over this land, whoahhhhhh”.
(Now, let’s hear about Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey the convicted child molesters.)
"If you miss the train I'm on...
You will know that I am gone..."
RIP.
Puff the Magic Dragon Lived by the Sea....
Prayers for her family and friends
Henry Gibson was so funny! Only 73? He must have only been in his early 30s when Laugh In was on. I would have thought he was older.
Peter Paul and Mary sang some nice stuff, though they were obviously lefties. 72 is too young to go. Sorry to hear it.

May she forever frolick in the autumn mist, in a land called Ha Na Li.....
Agreed.
And, don’t forget his role in The Blues Brothers as the leader of the Illinois Nazi Party
Maybe not. I looked and found Peter Yarrow was arrested in 1970 and Stookey got nailed 2 years before (see my other post. Dylan encouraged Stookey to find religion and he did (probably to beat the rap).
Look every folkie by an large was pals with Pete Seeger who was a fawning stooge for Joe Stalin. Seeger is pals with Bruce Springsteen and the Clintoins gave him a (sic) Freedom Medal.
Oh no, I didn’t know that about Gibson. Too bad.

I could give a damn less about their politics, PP&M are a part of the soundtrack of our lives, and I’ll shed a tear for her. RIP Mary.
