Kanye West Outburst Rains on Swift's MTV Parade
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS September 13, 2009
NEW YORK (AP) -- The MTV Video Music Awards kicked off Sunday with a poignant, tender tribute to fallen icon Michael Jackson, but soon got back into raucous character thanks to Kanye West, who delivered yet another awards show outburst at the expense of country and pop sweetheart Taylor Swift.
The two moments represented the highs and the lows of the VMAs, which are defined not by its awards, but its wacky and tacky moments.
West provided the wacky and tacky soon after the Jackson tribute, changing the mood from bittersweet to just plain bitter. West -- who has flipped out after losing at the VMAs, the Grammys, the American Music Awards and more -- complained again that the wrong person had been awarded a trophy. This time, it was on behalf of Beyonce.
Beyonce, nominated for best female video for ''Single Ladies,'' was bested by Swift, the best-selling artist of the year outside of Jackson. The 19-year-old was giddy when she won for her clip ''You Belong With Me,'' saying, ''I always wondered what it would be like to maybe win one of these someday, but never actually thought it would happen.''
But West ruined her moment when he jumped on stage at Radio City Music Hall.
''Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,'' he said, as a shocked Beyonce looked on and the crowd began to boo West.
A crestfallen Swift didn't finish her speech, but the crowd applauded her anyway. She later performed ''You Belong With Me'' in a subway station.

“She later performed ‘’You Belong With Me’’ in a subway station.”
LOL, that sounds strange. why didn’t they let her perform it on stage?
How these vile thugs with their demonic rap become multi-millionaires is a reflection of our putrid culture. They have become mainstream and are featured in Miss USA and Miss America contests. Shame!
The guy’s a boor and an idiot and yet.....he’s a guest on Leno’s opening show. Good pick, Jay! (I won’t be watching).
Well, I guess Kane West showed that white girl!
Beyonce looked absolutely stunned and not in a nice way!
What a jerk - not that I didn’t already know that about him.
Kudos to Beyonce who later in the night after winning for video of the year, instead of giving a speech, recalled how she won her first VMA as a 17-year-old with Destiny’s Child. Beyonce called Taylor back out onto the stage, to “give her her moment”. Truly a classy thing for Beyonce to do. I don’t like her music personally, but she appears to have a good heart.
ping
Did you see Serena Williams go off?
Wow, Beyonce had class, inviting the girl back out. Nice touch.
Nope... I’m just catching all this online now.
>Beyonce looked absolutely stunned and not in a nice way!
It’s that look of, “cool! yeah!” when SHE should have gotten on state and told Kanye to shaddap, and to re-praise Taylor.
as time goes on, I find my likes on tv and radio are really diminishing to a few reliabe standbys...
since the the little hitler came on stage, I've decided to be retro in almost everything....I'm quitting a lot of our "culture" and the people that idealize it...
been listening a lot to Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland...Patsy Cline....good old movies on Metroplex and Retroplex ..
Sheesh! What a nutless dork.
Another Racist thug!
Pray for America
I just wish security would have removed him from the stage immediately to send a message. What a bunch of BS to ruin someone’s moment like that........
Kanye!!
4Q and your big white Cadillac!!
An attention hungry baby. Di a similar thing when he didn’t win an MTV award in 2006:
It happened when Justice Vs Simian’s “We Are Your Friends,” not Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky,” was awarded Best Music Video. Kanye lost his anger and stormed the stage as French DJ Justice collected the award.
“F**k this! My video cost a million dollars,” West said at the event, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. “Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and s**t! If I don’t win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you (Justice Vs Simian), but hell man.”
Despite winning the Best Hip-Hop award, West continued with the tirade at a post-award press conference. “I haven’t seen (the Justice and Simian video). Possibly it could have been quite good, but no way better than “Touch The Sky.” That is complete bulls**t, I paid a million. Obviously it’s not all about the money, but the response it got transcended everything, it really made great TV. It took a month to film; I stood on a mountain; I flew a helicopter over Vegas. I did it to be the king of all videos and I wanted to walk home with that award. The reason the other video won, that was some spread the love bulls**t, ‘Oh everyone should have an award.’ Please press people print, ‘Kanye says f**k that!’”
Just another sign of the breakdown of our society.
White people standing there wondering: What just happened?
It’s a zoo at these sorts of events now so I’m sure most of them are too ignorant to know to be offended by his actions.
Kanye’s twin is in the White House.
Nothing will change until American’s suffer enough to want to change it. But maybe it will be too late by then.
Around here, folks won't want to believe that, because it's more fun to hate Kanye. But that's another reason why it works. Kanye the villian. Taylor the helpless blond waif. Beyonce the gracious hero. It's as pat as an old silent movie with Taylor being tied to the tracks by Kanye, saved at the end by Beyonce. Everyone is perfectly typecast to elicit the emotional reaction. And they get big time press.
Some argue that Kanye wouldn't be a part of a setup like this. But these same people argue that he's dumb enough to to do it on his own. Well? If he's that dumb, which he is, then he's that dumb. And anyway, he's already a villian. He has to remain a villian to stay in the news. This is plain and simple showmanship by MTV, and a big success for them.
