Here is video of Fox News' Megyn Kelly this morning confronting Broward County, Florida School Superintendent James Notter for his decision to make it mandatory for students to attend President Obama's "School Speech" today. He also says students will face penalties for not attending.
Kelly pressed him on why they are not making the event voluntary when Obama's own Secretary of Education has said it should be voluntary. Notter just kept repeating, "This is not an opt out part of our curriculum."
Kelly pointed out that Broward County is the only school district they know of in the country making this event mandatory with penalties for those who don't attend. . . . (VIDEO)

What are the penalties? Do you have to write all of Biden’s gaffs on the blackboard?
Palin-Kelly 2012!
“YOU VILL VATCH AND LIKE IT.”
In several States, any and all curriculum must be approved by a board that consists of teachers, parents, and various school boards. I wonder if Florida has this rule? A lot of districts are using this as an excuse to ‘screen’ the live speech.
James Notter needs to be held to his own rules in an Alinskyesque fashion.
Kick those shiny boots up higher, James!
She took him to the woodshed and he just kept spewing the same lines over and over... You go Girl!
Last Friday would be the last day my child stepped into a school in this man’s district.
He doesn’t own my kids.
Shouldn’t they be in a mandatory how to mark a ballot class?
Palin-Kelly 2012! ................... Definately a Dream Ticket, keep dreaming. Can’t say that I dislike it, I’m for it.
Just as there are rules for Ann Coulter postings, I think the same should be done for Megyn Kelly.
Broward is in the occupied part of the state, they really should have to have passports to leave!
Our system here in North Central FL has given the decision making on whether to view this speech to the individual principals.
Most refuse to show it live - many will show it tape delayed and absolutely will allow students to opt out.
We've been in school now for 2 weeks and this speech interferes with lunchtimes, etc.
That would be way too much hotness on one ticket..
The feminists’ heads would collectively explode..LOL
Too bad a kid can't just vote, "Present."
You are correct, and I can tell you clearly see the issue at stake.
The problem is, he doesn't own your kids in the same way the government doesn't own my house. I own my house, but if I don't pay my property taxes (government mandate) then I lose my house. The government has behavior it mandates, and then has mechanisms to adhere you to compliance. It is not a far stretch to say that this kind of thing could be government mandated (if you regard the school district as government, then it IS mandated) and if you don't raise your kids the way the government sees fit, then there could be consequences. In this case, the kid will get penalized somehow because they didn't watch this statist propaganda.
Then, if we buckle under to this with all of its content (whether that content is good, bad or indifferent) the door is open to whatever the government says must be watched. Once you concede that the government can force your children to be subjected to something as innocuous as "volunteer more", "do your homework", "stay in school" and "eat your vegetables", then the door is open to whatever the statists in power think is appropriate.
And with people like Bill Ayers and others like him who have the ear of Obama, we know damn well that what they think is appropriate will end up in these things. "Social Justice", "Global Warming" and so on.
Once that camel's nose is in the tent, then does anyone doubt that there are no limitations on what they will do to radicalize young children? It is, after all, the stated goal of Bill Ayers, who has helped to shape Obama into what he is today.
I thought I heard someone on Fox News this morning say that they thought this was illegal.
Someone needs to investigate the background of this superintendant!
