I don’t understand why the morons don’t normalise the audio for all channels, beforehand.

LOL :) I have the same problem when I watch my favorite cable TV channels. I can’t hear the show so I turn the volume way up then some stupid Bare Minerals or Proactive commercial comes blasting on. This has also happened with action type movies that my husband will watch. Can’t hear the dialogue but boy oh boy can you hear the machine gun fire and music.

Yep, sound is usually pretty bad with the movies. It’s really annoying having to constantly be adjusting the volume level, thank goodness for the remote.

It isnt just comcast.
We rent DVD and the same problem.
Charter cable movies not so bad.
The dang rentals though we have to turn up the 60incher HDTV and STILL cant hear the voices then the music or city sounds ect blast and I have to turn down the tv frantically.
Stopped renting DVDs.
Cable tv lower channels do it at times.

Indeed. Imagine if every conservative spent 90 minutes a day actively doing something, at least contacting congress critters, instead of TV!
There would be no cats on the ceiling..

Not to worry, I'm convincing my grandson to make a product that will take care of this. Drives me insane. Watching one channel that takes the sound bar up to 22 or 24 and switching during commercials and the next channel only needs a 10. I need a list of the sound levels not what's coming on! But you are also right in that the sound level throughout shows has variations. Good thing there is a remote now, can you imagine jumping up and down and running to the tv to turn it up and down! No way, I wouldn't even get up to change channels. I had children for that.

You might want to look into a Terk VR1 ($25 ~ $35). Very small, easily installed and prevents those sudden HIGH volume increases (from commercials or scene changes).

We you are experiencing is full dynamics of the live event. With the day of digital audio some thing are less electronically compressed. Compression means the large volume is reduced while the soft volume is elevated. Compression was used in the days of cheap speakers on televisions. Now we listen on full range speakers with great dynamic amplification. There are ways of dealing with this. Freep mail me if you want so help.
