Word For The Day, Tuesday, September 1, 2009
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
shambolic [shām-bŏl'ĭk]
-adj Chiefly British slang
Disorderly or chaotic
[Probably from alteration of shambles]
-adv shambolically
Not heard either of those mentioned. I guess Penn State is supposedly decent. xshub just emailed me back but to quote him he said i don’t think PUKE STATE is a good fit since even I wouldn’t visit him there! he said Drexel has a good program with a coop situation similar to RIT. The impressive thing with RIT is that they have kids getting job offers from coops before they have even graduated, in the Info technology field. The other consideration is a club hockey team. i guess penn state has one and that was another reason the guy mentioned it, but so do these other schools.
I mean I don’t know what an I school is.
Yes, I’ve heard of J schools. “I school” sounds made up.
Is that what the boy is interested in? Seems to me like a lot of talking about computers, but not so much actually doing anything.
I guess you aren’t familiar with the field then. I think 100% job placement is pretty impressive and it’s something he is interested in doing. we had xshub’s IT guy over for dinner and talked to him about it. he has worked for Disney in animation, did websites for major companies before he was 20 years old [he’s only 30 now].
I know what IT is, I just wasn’t up on the pretentious college references to it.
It’s not a bad field, by any means. Like any other, there are few glamorous positions and lots of drudge ones.
i am interested in him having a good shot at a job after graduation. it’s fine to have pretensions about various schools and fields, but at the end of the day it’s about earning a living and paying the rent. if it’s something he halfway enjoys doing, then that’s icing on the cake. my brother has been a petroleum engineer with 30 years on the job, who is enjoying a furlough week every 10 weeks because of obams energy policy and the poor economy.
Sounds like a plan.
The ninth.
My guidance counselor in HS encouraged me to apply to Quinnipiac. I looked at that nun like she was crazy. My cousin ended up going there. I mean seriously, does Quinnipiac even HAVE a football team???
No doubt this guy made the airport shambolic:
