Although the majority of its superb intact monuments now sit in Berlin's Pergamon Museum, enough remains of the acropolis for the visitor to sense the former greatness of the city that once rivaled Alexandria, Ephesus and Antioch in culture and commerce, and whose scientific advancements in the field of medicine resonate through the corridors of today's medical treatment facilities. Juxtaposed sharply against this image of enlightened learning is that of "Satan's Throne," as described by the prophet John of Patmos (Revelation 2:12-13), which some scholars interpret as referring to the Great Altar of Pergamon, one of the most magnificent surviving structures from the Greco-Roman world...
Pergamon rose to prominence during the years of the Greek empire's division following the death of Alexander the Great in 323 B.C. His short-lived empire was partitioned among his generals, with General Lysimachus inheriting the then-settlement of Pergamon and its wealth. Due largely to its strategic position along land and sea trading routes and in part to the wealth of the Attalid kings who ruled the kingdom, the city enjoyed centuries of prosperity that continued when it passed peacefullly to Rome's control in 133 B.C. From that point on, Pergamon's fate was inextricably linked to that of Rome, and it rose and fell in tandem with the great Roman Empire.

History
The Pergamon Altar is a massive structure originally built in the 2nd century BC in the Ancient Greek city of Pergamon. The temple was dedicated to the greek god Zeus. The Pergamon Altar was shipped out of the Ottoman Empire from the original excavation site by the German archeological team lead by Carl Humann, and reconstructed in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin in the 19th century, where it can be seen alongside other monumental structures such as the Ishtar Gate from Babylon. Hitler's Architect
A German archaeologist, Carl Humann, began excavating the altar on Sept.9, 1878. The altar was then moved back to Germany and reconstructed. Kaiser Wilhelm II celebrated its erection in Berlin in 1902. In 1933 Adolph Hitler was elected Chancellor of Germany. In 1934 he became dictator and ordered construction of the Tribune at Zeppelin Field in Nuremberg for his Nazi rallies.
The architect, Albert Speer, used the Pergamon Altar as the model for the Zeppelintribüne. The Führer's pulpit was in the center of the tribune, which was built from 1934 to 1937. Adolph Hitler, the Evil King of Germany started World War II in 1939. After the end of World War II, the Soviets took the Pergamon Altar to Leningrad in 1948 (Same year as the Rebirth of Israel) as spoils. The Alter was later returned in 1958.
The Romans were first and then the German Nazis. The prophets in the Bible state Russia will attack Israel in the final world war.
Revelation 2:12-13 In Pergamos where Satan's Throne is, Former Things
Been there 3 times. Incredible place. Especially like walking up the hillside rather than driving to the top.
It would of been a massive change in Civilization if Alexander the great lived just a few more years.
Come back to this thread and read post #7.
No argument here. Just in that decade or so he transformed his world. He left things unfinished, as everyone does when they pass.
:’) A little jealous...
On another subject entirely, I am always amazed at the timeless appeal of those snappy Hugo Boss uniforms.
