How much is your dog or cat worth?

The kitty that falls asleep on your pillow purring every night -- is she worth just the $30 you paid for her at the shelter? Or your loyal dog, who you walk with every day -- what, $150? That's the value that showed up on your credit card -- but is their real value about more than the pricetag? In a court of law, that might not be the case.

Jack is absolutely stunning. A real beauty. In time I suspect he will take over more and more of your heart. I have yet to own a Siamese who hasn’t managed to do that, and I’ve had the privelege to live with quite a few.

Thank you for sharing his glorious photo.

I know her! She’s a friend on Facebook. She just started photography last year and has two Belgians. She lives in Australia.

Scooting isn’t a common symptom of worms even if they have tapes.

I hadn’t heard of that CDC report,... interesting. “The CDC study shows the transmission of Toxocara from dogs and cats to people is most common in young children and youth under age 20, and more common in non-Hispanic Blacks than in Mexican Americans and non-Hispanic Whites of all age groups. It is highest in lower socioeconomic and less-educated populations. “

Toxocara are roundworms. I haven’t gotten a positive test for rounds in years. I think exposure depends on where you live. I used to live on a farm so I wormed my dogs monthly.
My old vet used to worm his kids using the same stuff I used for puppies.

Woof!

After an initial exam costing $282,
my 8 year old boy is recovering from a crutiate operation costing $1691.

Money well spent, imo.

I use the flea/tick/heartworm/worms Advantix from the vet. It’s expensive, but has everything you need in one little tube that you use once a month. Great stuff.

I've been training my dog for farm work
and notice he likes to sample the horses' road apples.

What deworming medicine do you use and what is the cost?

I used “Interceptor” on the adult dogs. I had the vet write a script and got it on the internet/mailorder. Usually I waited for a sale in the winter and got a years supply (12 tabs). It is more expensive but it got everything but tapes.

One of our dogs was quite ill the last year of his life. We spent about $20,000. to keep him alive for about 12 months.

Two of our female dogs got into a fight: the cost was about $5,000. for skin grafts, hospitalization, and consultation with an expert from Angell Memorial in Boston. We've also had numerous other expenses. Do we love our dogs? You bet we do.
