Photos of Snow Leopard Disc and Retail Packaging?
Saturday August 15, 2009 09:25 PM EST | by Eric Slivka

MacRumors has received a set of images claimed to be the retail packaging and disc for Apple's forthcoming Mac OS X Snow Leopard. If the images, which appear to depict the Portuguese version of Snow Leopard, are in fact authentic, it would mean that Snow Leopard discs are already in mass production.

"The world's most advanced operating system. Perfectly optimized."

Multiple sources claimed earlier this week that Build 10A432 had been designated "Golden Master", meaning that it was considered the final version to be sent to manufacturing for public release. Several sources have also claimed that Apple may be releasing Snow Leopard as early as Friday, August 28th, ahead of Apple's previously-announced September launch window.

The definition provided by Spotlight is faulty, as I already pointed out.

The meaning of “is” is?

You “is” taking this as an attack on you, when all I did was criticize Apple fanbois.

Hmmmm. That’s seems to be awkwardly revealing.

Aw, Petronski, you didn't take that goof seriously did you?

You're still da man. My goombah. My BFF. We're still tighter than Lindsey and Britney (well, okay, neither one of them are particularly tight, I hear it's kind of like whacking around the inside of a trash can with a banana) but you get my drift.

I thought I had problems -- and my "older" machine is only a Powerbook G4...

Been hoping someone would do a "Virtual OS X..."

Well, if you couldn’t do it without lying, that’d be the best choice.

Maybe it's a sly
Apple in-joke commenting
on the fringe rumors

someone is always
whispering that Apple will
drop their UNIX stuff

and switch to Windows.
Adopting Windows 7,
dropping OS X,

would be a forceful,
violent move for Apple.
If they "cleaned" Windows

with careful Apple
utilities, they'd really
shake up the market.

The definition provided by Spotlight is faulty, as I already pointed out.

Then your problem is with the New Oxford American Dictionary.

Frankly, even wikipedia does a better job than Spotlight:

What version of OSX are you using, Petronski?

OSX.5 Leopard includes Wikipedia articles in its findings for definitions. If your OSX is a lower version, it doesn't include access to Wikipedia results in the results from "All Reference Libraries". So for Mac users with Leopard, your comment about "doing a better job than Spotlight" is questionable because Spotlight provides the Wikipedia article.

Also, using Wikipedia's article on ad hominem, your comment could be construed to be Ad hominem abusive:

Ad hominem abusive Ad hominem abusive (also called argumentum ad personam) usually and most notoriously involves insulting or belittling one's opponent, but can also involve pointing out factual but ostensible character flaws or actions which are irrelevant to the opponent's argument. This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and even true negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions.

Incidentally, that quotation was copied verbatim from the Wikipedia entry brought up by Spotlight in Leopard.

Now, I did not really see an abusive comment in your first post, especially not any hint of a sexual nature. I, being gifted of a spotlessly clean mind, assumed you were implying that Mac users would be salivating over the prospect of a new big cat sooner than expected.

Yesterday, I bought an iPod Classic. I think the only difference between it and an iPhone is ATT is still out about a $100.00 a month phone charges from me. But I paid a lot for it! but it was on sale (whoopee, $10.00 off!). It has 120GB...yes, one hundred twenty GB! Heck, this MacBook Pro only has 160GB! Do I need to have buyers remorse? If so, can I watch the 2 episodes of Dr. Who I just dragged and dropped on it first? And I haven’t tried putting any music that was not bought at the iTunes store on it yet, is that gonna be a problem?

Nice iPod... but not close to an iPhone. None of the App Store apps will work on it, just the iPod apps can be downloaded and used. You can carry a heck of a lot more movies, video, music, etc., on that iPod Classic than even the 32GB iPhone can... but you don't have touch screen, GPS, magnetic compass, WIFI, camera, Internet Access, that the iPhone has. So, no, there is a lot of difference between it and the iPhone or iPod Touch.

No, you'll not have any problem moving any music you've ripped from a CD, downloaded from another source (except the Zune Market Place), or acquired from any other source onto your iPod Classic.

And I need Snow Leopard because...? (I’m still mad that I can’t run Panther on this MBP!)

Why in hades would you want to run OSX.3 Panther on your Macbook Pro? Your MacBook Pro either came with OSX.4 Tiger or OSX.5 Leopard... both of which are much faster and more stable than OSX.3.

As for why you should want Snow Leopard, being sold as an upgrade to Leopard for a mere $29, is that you will receive 6GB of disk space back and a 30-40% boost in speed on your MacBook Pro as well as new services such as Grand Central Dispatch to manage use of your multiple core processors, full 64 bit processing and memory access, OpenCL to allow applications to access the GPU for accelerated computing, and QuickTime X, which is built on CoreGraphics, CoreAnimation, and CoreAudio for faster and smoother displays of HD content.

The definition provided by Spotlight is faulty, as I already pointed out.

The Spotlight definition is the definition of ad Hominem in the complete New Oxford American Dictionary.

Spotlight also provides free instant access to the New Oxford Writer's Thesaurus, and Wikipedia as well as Apple's on line support resources.

Here is a screen grab of the same results with the "All" option selected in the Spotlight dictionary:

Your claim of Spotlight being faulty is erroneous.

Not extinct, but it is endangered. There are an estimated 3,500-6,000 Snow Leopards left in the wild.

Their definition is overly-broad. The problem is theirs.

I'm typing on the Dell now, but the Mac is Leopard I think 10.5.5, maybe we missed an update. I'll check for the specifics later.

It’s just a dictionary definition, give it a break. It’s not a treatise on logical argument. Random House and American Heritage have approximately the same broad definitions.
