This will be a general purpose thread for F1 news and pings that really don't require a thread of their own.
Please remove me from this ping list. Thank you.
Wow!
What a way to start the day!
Silly season will be turned up to 11!
I did for the 2nd time. Sorry.
Anyone check for Jos’s finger prints on the knife?
Where’s my shocked face? It’s around here somewhere……
Sorry to see Chode go....
Yes, We’re All dealing with it. I’m in touch with Family and am passing it on to Them. Definitely not the same around here but I Promised Him I’d keep His Herd/Flock/Race Junkies or whatever We are as best I could.
I’m getting information/Memories/Humorous and Chode Moments for the Tribute Thread together to Link to the FR Memorial Wall Brick. SO IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING TO ADD PLEASE FRMail Me THE DETAILS.
RIP Our Brother.🙏🇺🇸🏁❤️
Thank you for the updates. Leaves such an empty feeling though- but he isn’t suffering anymore- glad he was a part of the community- he did somethingm
he enjoyed right to the end practically. (Discussing racing and politics and such on fr)
And thank you for carrying the mantle too. The racing threads are a much needed break from the doom and gloom of politics. Glad code began the threads, and glad you are keeping them going.
Welcome, and please share a funny Post or comment with Me via FRMail if You can. I’ll put it in the Tribute Thread.
Charlie was one of a kind and they broke the mold after using it for Him.
I’m going back through all of My Posts (I originally joined FR during the 2000/ Hanging chads days) and I never thought about how many Posts I’ve made over the past decades until I started trying to find Chode and My 1st interaction with Him.
I’m also in the No longer in pain world and did the same thing when I lost My Father and Mother. I have also mentioned that to others that are in Mourning that it does work.
Charlie was definitely in major pain the last phone conversation We had when He was getting ready to go to the Care Facility. He didn’t even sound like Him. It was very difficult phone conversation for Me and I could only imagine what it was for Him. Probably the worst phone call I have ever dealt with...
Thanks
RIP Our Brother.🙏🇺🇸🏁❤️
Thanks for posting Sir Chode Obituaries.
Thanks for posting Sir Chode Obituaries.
Very nice.
Thanks!
Sad… but he’s Home. Thank you…
-- Bernie Ecclestone
"He [Hambone] struggled for ultimate pace in qualifying [at Hungaroring], and with the pack so close, he would start only 12th when his team-mate Leclerc was on pole. He would then describe himself as 'useless' in post-qualifying interviews and suggest the team should change the driver. That was best left unsaid, but he obviously wanted to openly punish himself."
-- Martin Brundle
Ferrari better run a close-out on those Lewis Hamilton-endorsed sneakers before they have to give them away. They're the only net profit they've made from hiring him.
Puma Sneaker for Scuderia Ferrari Speedcat Pro Lewis Hamilton: $462.
If you fancy a pair, I'd wait a week or two for the fire sale.
Hammy invested when it was selling for over $150 a share. Today? Two bucks and change.
is there a chance that the Ping List might vanish from Sir Chode’s home page?
I've heard of that kind of money for a classic old Ferrari, but never for a new one.
First they made 599 'production' models. Then they made one more that was ... different.
For every Eagle Weslake or Maserati 250F, there is a Caterham CT05 or Lotus E22. Check out our list of the 10 ugliest F1 cars of all-time, and make sure to vote at the bottom of the article in the poll!
TL;DR
March 711 (1971) - The Teatray
Ligier JS5 (1976) - The Teapot
Tyrrell P34 (1976-1977) - The six-wheeler
Ensign N179 (1979) - The Cheese Grater
Ferrari F310 (1996)
Williams FW26 (2004) - The Walrus
Ferrari F2012 (2012)
Caterham CT05 (2014)
Lotus E22 (2014) - The double tusk
Force India VJM07 (2014)
If you ask me, the P34 doesn't belong on this list. The concept was brilliant, less drag and twice as many front brake rotors in the bargain. It's only problem was that Goodyear wasn't interested in developing a 10" race tire. And back then, if Goodyear wouldn't support it, you couldn't race on it. The P34s came 1-2 at one event, which hints at what it might be capable of. If Goodyear had got behind it, we might to this day still be seeing 6-wheeled F1 racers.
Freddie Vasseur says, Ferrari underestimated the challenge for Hambone.
Filtered through the modified disgronificator, that translates to, "We overestimated Hambone's talent.
Hambone wants Ferrari to follow his advice on car design rather than their own design staff.
The rumoured details behind Lewis Hamilton’s F1 documents to Ferrari
What it boils down to is that Hambone can't "steer with the rear." And the cars that Leclerc is driving in circles around him are too 'twitchy' to suit his meager abilities.
Back in the olden days, when the racing was actually exciting, the cars depended mostly on mechanical grip. Back then, the fastest line through any corner usually was going sideways and the best of the lot of 'em could "steer with the rear."
But that requires talent, which eliminates Hambone.
The simple fact is that, dynamically speaking, stability and responsiveness always work at crossed purposes. It doesn't matter whether it's a car, a boat, or an airplane, they're always fastest with stability so low as to be on the verge of instability. Which is precisely why F1 cars don't have the engine in the front.
Or as Harry Hogge (Robert Duval) told Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise), " When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge you're out of control."
F1 pundit Alex Jacques says Hambone made two YUGE mistakes. First, he abandoned the team whose car likely will be the cream of the 2026 crop. And he joined the team that has zero chances of giving him his 8th WDC.
Arturo Merzario, the driver who pulled the smoldering Niki Lauda out of his Ferrari 312 after the Nurburgring crash, says "In my opinion, Hamilton's arrival in Maranello was a commercial operation. 90% of Ferrari insiders disagreed, at least as far as I know."
At least Maranello made good on that account, because Hambone's sycophantic toadies are still buying tons and tons of Hambone sneakers. Or maybe they're Hank Aaron sneakers, I can't tell.
