Thanks for the kind words, writing is more a nudge of the muse and a curiosity as to where it will take me. Here’s one for the board.

Friends in heart with common cause here
poetry and humor, laughter and shared tear
like a family gathered around the fireside
we share what we have, letting pains abide

Warmth and words capturing ideas and dreams
blended in company with us each it seems
Like a red red rose in the snow so white
this place stands out, its freedom does shout

Red on Fridays, or those Caturdays as well
dogs welcome though the cat’s glance is fell
Dust bunny graphics that give smiling delights
words and crafted images combine in fun sights

A family of minds blended in friendship fair
let us preserve it with thoughtful honest care
Here the place where distant friends reach out
and touch in gentle humor, strife we do rout

Recipes shared oh so easy right here
simply expanding my belt line I fear
and those fried treats displayed galore
and Chocolate wonders and ever much more

Mom in U.K. Fined for Grieving Too Long at Baby Son’s Funeral

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

A grieving mother in Britain was fined $173 for spending too long at her son’s coffin before it was taken away for cremation.

Terrie Rouse, 32, said her grief turned to shock when officials told her she had taken too long to say goodbye, The Daily Mail reported.

“The vicar had asked if I would like to spend a bit more time saying goodbye,” she said. “I sat by the coffin for 10 minutes, telling my son how much we loved him and begging him not to be scared.”

Officials at the crematorium, run by a local English council, impose an extra charge if any funeral runs over its 30-minute slot.

However, the couple’s funeral directors said there was plenty of time for the next funeral which was not due to take place for another 50 minutes.

Rouse’s partner, Lee Smythe, said the fee was “sick and disgusting.””Terrie was weeping hysterically,” he said. “She just wanted a few extra minutes to say goodbye to our much-loved little boy.”

The couple’s son, Zane, died at five weeks from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome on April 9.

The family waited three months before they could have a funeral to allow for tests to be carried out.

“It was distressing enough having to wait for the funeral because we were left in limbo, but this has just made it all worse,” Smythe said.

If Amy's Place doesn't have an official poem, this should be it

Give me an Amy’s place graphic and I’ll format the poem.

Thanks, Meg. I always think of Tina (and SEE her with working it across the stage with those fabulous LEGS!!) when I think of Proud Mary, too, but evidently Credence Clearwater was the original. I like it a lot!

Give me an Amy’s place graphic and I’ll format the poem.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, and Amy surely might want to weigh in on it, but I do know when she posts a new thread the first day of every month, this is the regular Amy's Place graphic (at Post #1):

Billie, the Gig Street Boys really get going about half way through the link (There’ll Be A Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight). They play on the streets in France - and I would just love to hear them in person!

At just about exactly 3 minutes 10 seconds in, as a matter of fact - the horns really kick in. I love it! Some pretty funky visual effects to that video, too. :) Thanks for the link, yorkie.

Maybe we could add the poem under that graphic? It’s Amy’s call, of course, but I think the poem and the graphic goes nicely together.

That's what I think, too. Wanted to post the picture so everyone could see it. Sometimes we forget what the first few graphicss on the 'homepage' look like. :)
