Offers for help are pouring in for an eight-year-old Liberian girl disowned by her own family in Phoenix, Arizona, after being raped by four boys.
The girl is under the care of the Arizona Child Protective Service (CPS) because her parents said she had shamed them, and they did not want her back.
Phoenix police said calls had come in from all over the US offering money, or even to adopt the young girl.
The boys, Liberian immigrants aged nine to 14, have been charged with rape.

I don’t think native Americans would be tolerant of this, nor do I think Native Americans would be tolerant of this. The father needs his head reorganized.
Aside from obviously not tolerating the rape and abandonment of children — a position clearly adopted by the President of Liberia, by the way — I also don’t agree with Freepers like LeoWindhorse who use this poor kid’s tragedy to make statements like this about LEGAL immigrants to the US:

If someone feels it’s appropriate to respond to the actions of a couple of evil rapists and callous “parents” by smearing all LEGAL immigrants — including the raped girl, by the way — as “scum,” then I think the word “sick” wouldn’t begin to describe the blackness in their heart.
I was obviously responding to what I see as the “knee-jerk intolerance” of the Freeper who posted this article, who saw fit to comment on this LEGAL immigrant (as far as I can tell) girl’s rape by smearing LEGAL immigrants as “scum” from a “fetid, pond of 3rd World humanity...” Which is to say, my reply addresses this Freeper’s intolerance of third-world immigrants. Straightforward enough?
As for the rapists, I hope that the Arizona courts throw the book at them. Such acts should not be tolerated here, as I see that they are not tolerated by Liberia’s legal system.
As for the so-called parents, they will have to answer to public opinion and, eventually, God’s judgement for their callous actions.
As for people who use a girls’s tragedy as grist for their anti-immigrant diatribes — I’d say that’s pretty shameless. Heartless, too.

No, I think that American citizens should cheer on the legal and penal system of the state of Arizona as they (hopefully) try, convict and punish these boys for their horrible crime.
The appropriateness of using news of a minor’s rape to start banging the drum against LEGAL immigration is, however, another matter.

As I stated previously, as far as I know the accused rapists are legal immigrants. If you know of a reliable account that states otherwise, please post it.

No, but when four legal immigrants commit a terrible crime, it’s improper to impugn the character of legal immigrants per se by making the general claim that they are a “vast tapestry of scum from the great ,fetid, pond of 3rd World humanity.” (see the first post on this thread; the one I responded to)
I think that one can voice legitimate criticisms of US immigration policy — lack of enforcement of current laws would be a good place to start — without descending to this level of bigotry and “know nothing” nonsense.
Sorry, but that description fits these four rapists pretty well.
Sick all I can say. It is the family of the rapist that should disavow them. The parents of the victims are just as bad. They all have a spot in Hell.
I’d say “evil” suffices when describing the four rapists.
“That description” from Post #1 was used to smear Liberian immigrants willy-nilly (and other Third-worlders) as “scum” who come from countries that are “fetid” ponds. It was meant as a broad slander and insult. By implication, this is a descriptor that was applied to the raped girl. Do you think *that* was fitting? Is it fitting to insult a raped girl while engaged in immigrant-bashing? I don’t think so!
A young immigrant girl was raped, and the response was to post a smear of immigrants so broad that it smeared her, and many other innocents, too. As I said in my first post — shameless. And, might I add, inhumane.

If having tighter immigration standards is “indefensible” (and you would add “inhumane”), then looser immigration standards must be wholly defensible (and, therefore humane).
If by “tighter standards” you mean US standards that would exclude immigrants from ANY country who had a history of violent crime, or who were without skills or education (illiterate), then I would agree (barring special circumstances). I would support them.
However, you know that I am not talking about the humanity or inhumanity of immigration laws. Far from it. Stop twisting my words.
I’m discussing how pretty squalid rhetoric has been used in this thread to defame whole peoples, who, as far as I can see, have only committed the “offense” of being foreign. That’s what I have been consistently been calling shameless and indefensible.
Once again — why are you defending the hurling of insults at raped girls and other innocents? Just because they are immigrants?
