Frankly, I would be pissed too if someone entered my home and arrested me for “demanding a badge number.” Once they knew he was in his own home the cop should have walked away, and left it at that. It was beyond stupidity to arrest him.
Last thing I heard was that Gates got arrested out on his sidewalk. The incident was done, the cops were leaving and then Gates decided that he still wanted to give another piece of his mind to the cops so he came out and confronted them some more.
What if you arrived at your house to find it burglarized. Then found out that the police came and spoke to the burglar, but left when the buglar told them that he lived there.
they didn’t want to push it.
Police report on incident.........

Prof. Gates should publicly apologize to the responding officer and then, thank the neighbor lady who witnessed what she thought was a break-in and called Police.

He didn’t arrest him for “demanding” a badge number, read the report. In any event, badges have numbers embossed on them for a reason, and they aren’t hard to find. This man was creating a disturbance long after the situation could have ended.
