The moon may have been the entire world for a day for Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin 40 years ago, but today he hopes the United States and the world set their sights on a far grander goal: Spreading humanity to Mars and perhaps asteroids and comets.

Fine by me. Let’s take up a collection for one-way tickets for: Bubba Klinton and the Hildebeast; Paris Hilton; The Zero and Aunt Esther; all members of Congress (we need to clean out both houses and start over).
We can pay for it with the money we save on the health care bill, Yeah, thats the ticket!
Yes, but do it without NASA. Space exploration should be privatized and without govt interference. I remember a quote from “Armageddon”. “The space shuttle: designed by the govt, built by the lowest bidder.” NASA has shuttle fleet that is already obsolete. They have to eBay to find junk to run them.
I would add my state’s governor, Fast Eddie Rendell, the state legislature, our inept and corrupt local government, those who administer our failing school systems, Perez Hilton and Keith Olberman
We killed the space program thirty years ago so we could spend more money on poor people.
We still have poor people thirty years later, so I would say it was a bad bargain.
We originally went to the moon in ships that had all the on-board computing power of a gameboy, or maybe not that much. And we made it there and back again and again. This is not something we can’t do, we’ve done it. Returning to the moon should not be a twenty year project, making it a twenty year project is the same as killing it. Make it a priority to be achieved within the administration of a single president. If we went from scratch to the moon in eight years time, having to invest everything as we go, we should be able to get back there in three or four. We just have to want to.
And whatever it takes to put a habitat on the moon, we should be able to be on Mars 12 years after that. The bottleneck is in will more than anything.
Let's put all Democrats and any of their Republicrat allies on Mars next year....
“The bottleneck is in will more than anything.”

I’d add, money.
Ain’t gonna happen. Probably won’t be on Mars by 2131 or even 2231.
no no no.. remember the movie Species 2 ?
LOL
We should encourage Muslims to establish the Caliphate on Mars. We could send them there free of charge (I don’t really want them using their own rockets, thank you very much) and they can declare jihad on Olympus Mons and the polar ice caps. We’d also move that big black cube thing they rotate around as well. We could even move it in pieces. They could finally get their own world to slice, dice and conquer, and we could finally...well, just imagine.
No they can stay here, I want to go..
Put Obama out of office in 2012.
We probably don't need to bother. There's already a black monolith just under the surface waiting to be discovered. Like the one they found on the Moon in 1999.
