I haven't seen a good summer reading thread, so I thought I'd start one. What books have you read so far this summer, what are you currently reading, and what is in your book stack?
I just started reading The Doomsday Key by James Rollins. So far it has an interesting premise, genetically altered foods, but I am only about 1/8 of the way through.
I will probably read Glenn Beck's Common Sense and maybe Dred Scott's Revenge by Judge Napolitano.
I love hearing what everyone else is reading!
I’m reading Michener’s “The Source”. Great story founded on great research that extends over the past 11,000 years. Excellent history of the Middle East, too.
We've literally run out of shelf space and the books are piling up on the floor. The Kindle is a godsend. The only downside is that it's just too easy to buy a book. See an interesting review, find the book with the Kindle, push a couple of keys and you've bought it. My reading queue is growing faster than my reading speed!
“The Phaselock Code” by Roger Hart
Roger was on the very first attempt at summiting Everest without oxygen in 1962 and has a glacier named after him in Antartica. (Hart Glacier) Excellent read.
“A War Like No Other” by Victor Davis Hanson
“Alexandria” by Lindsay Davis
“First Things” and “American Cowboy” magazines.
I’m on the library reserve list for “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” I was #68 when I signed up; don’t know where I am now. Maybe we’ll have it by October!
After reading Liberty and Tyranny, and after finding out Levin IS NOT ON ATLANTA A.M. RADIO except for 1 hour at 11:00 PM, I DL’ed all of his podcasts from 2009. After those are gone, I think I’ll start on Jeff Shaara’s WWII trilogy.
Where would we be without audio books?

BTW, just finished Atlas Shrugged; looking for something else. Enjoyed the Harry Potter series. It appeals to ages 10 through pedophile.
The Caine Mutiny is good. I'm the only guy I know who likes it, but Marjorie Morningstar was a good read. Tom Wolfe's The Painted Word and The Right Stuff are good. The Right Stuff is great for the first half, but bogs down a lot in the second half. I didn't like Divine Secrets of the YahYah Sisterhood. Too much sisterhood and not enough yayah.

Just read Outliers by Gladwell. Now reading Freakonomics by Levitt. Outliers was enlightening, explaining many prodigies and other outlier situations in a well-researched book and also posits the 10,000-hour rule. Levitt asks some interesting social economics questions, and most notably correlates Roe v. Wade to a decline in crime.
Next up is The Tipping Point by Gladwell. These are the first books I have read on the Kindle, and very much enjoy how easy it is to read with the variable font size. And, with my Kindle app for iPhone, I have my books with me wherever I am, whether I have the Kindle or not. I could have read a lot more books if we’d had this technology sooner!
Here’s a quick read: “Horse Soldiers” by Doug Stanton.
It tells the story of the incident that Obama is having investigated right now, the events surrounding how a large number of Taliban got to be dead after having “surrendered” to the Northern Alliance.
It is a remarkable story, and the event in question is not the major part of the story, but it helps to read the real story.
Read about how our Special Forces soldiers took the fight to the Taliban shortly after 9/11, when we defined war as killing the enemy and not arresting, Mirandizing and releasing him.
Atlas Shrugged, again.

Right now I’m on a Peter Jenkins kick. In the past two weeks I’ve read “A Walk Across America,” “The Walk West,” “The Unseen Road” “ and “Along the Edge of America.”

I'm reading, hmm, a book about dinos (left it at my mom's though), a book about the Roman Empire, a couple of others, and if I spent less time on the web, I'd actually be reading right now, plus I'd be able to look up the titles... ah me... |

Just got done re-reading The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, by R.A. Heinlein. I had forgotten how good it was, and how well Heinlein put forth his ideas of freedom and liberty. TANSTAAFL!
