The midnight twilight turned out to be too much for a couple of out-of-state visitors who wanted to be rescued after spending a single night in the Bush this month, Alaska State Troopers said Wednesday.
Troopers say they got a report of an emergency locator beacon registered to Washington, D.C., resident William Calomiris, 27, that was activated near Pungokepuk Lake, 20 miles northeast of Twin Hills, about 8:30 p.m. July 1. An air taxi service had dropped him and Adam Grunstra, also 27, of Bethesda, Md., off at the lake on June 30 for a seven-day stay, troopers said.
Troopers alerted the Alaska Air National Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard and then diverted their own Dillingham-based floatplane that was in the area to head to the scene and check things out.
"Calomiris and Grunstra claimed that they had been sunburned,"

These clowns were probably Rat operatives.
Then start with John McCain who continues to vote against ANWR each time it comes up to vote.
We call people like these guys the "3BO" crowd. Birkenstocks, backpacks, and body odor.
Last week, I believe our length of day had shrunk to 19 hours. Fall is fast approaching. ...sigh...
Cheechako
A new-comer to Alaska, ignorant of the terrain, the weather, the animals, the culture, the necessary driving skills in the winter, etc. Opposite of a sourdough.
“..couple of out-of-state visitors who wanted to be rescued after spending a single night in the Bush..”
Another teary-eyed survival in the hostile wilderness book deal in the making. DC home address; figures.
They were probably camping on Brokeback Mountain...
BAWAHAHAHA! Pikers! Bring on the sun!
For example, here is a list of state vegetable records set in last year's Alaska State Fair:
23-foot, 3 1/2-inch corn stalk
4.702-pound parsnip
1,019-pound pumpkin
17.195-pound yellow zucchini
67 1/8-inch long gourd
55.15-pound blue hubbard squash
21.530-pound bushel gourd
I had the opposite experience.
My experience, also, happened during the longest days. In 3 days, I basically did nothing but fish, sightsee and fish. I figured if there was sunlight, I should be fishing or sightseeing.
After 72 hours of the fishing and sightseeing and no real sleep, I became catatonic for about 24 hours. After that I limited the fishing and sight seeing to about 16 hours per day.
One reason some of the Beltway boys don’t like Gov. Palin.
They can’t keep up in her world.
Yeah, I have been camping with a platoon of my best friends in Alsaka.
It was called survival school...
LOL.
They probably just ran out of beer.
"Calomiris and Grunstra claimed that they had been sunburned," troopers wrote in a dispatch. "They were unprepared to deal with the long day length and any further exposure to the sun.
Girlie Men. Girlie Men!
BUT This.....

Bill their Nancy Boy City butts for every nickel!
I knew more about 'the outdoors' when I was friggen TEN than these schmucks! And I lived in CHICAGO.
This thread is killing me. LOL!
Now that I’m not being paid or ordered to sleep outdoors in nasty circumstances, I prefer not to go to out of the way wilderness areas. Embassy Suites is more my style, not Subsaharan Africa or Central America.
I don’t think they had problems getting lotion on their backs.
Been there, done that - well, the Persion Gulf, not Africa.
We now camp in a cabin. I like it.
It has a en suite, too - a mulch bucket.
LOL.
