DC Comics' superheroes join forces with characters inspired by Allah
Guardian UK ^ | 7/6/09 | Riazat Butt

They are superheroes battling injustice and fighting evil the Islamic way, and they are teaming up with some of the west's biggest comic book icons. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are among those joining forces with The 99, who personify the 99 attributes of Allah, according to Islamic tradition.

What will unfold on the pages of the collaboration between DC Comics in the US and Teshkeel Comics in Kuwait is yet to be seen, but the appearance of The 99 – who already appear in comics in the Muslim world – alongside archetypal American heroes would have been unlikely during the Bush years. DC Comics' president and publisher, Paul Levitz, believes the cross-cultural project is unprecedented.

He said: "It is a long-standing tradition for characters to meet others in the fictional world, and over the years a lot of the superheroes have been translated into Arabic, taking on ethnic elements. But this is a nice step forward. The most difficult creative test is when you are working with the least precedent and when you're trying to reach an audience that has a different cultural bias and different interests."

Even if I hadn’t grown out of comics at twenty, DC is dead to me as of now. Morons.

Usual stuff:

Bring down various plagues (blood, flies, kill first born, whatever), part waters, staffs to snake and back, produce food/water in deserts, knock down city walls, strong enough to pull down temples as long as he doesn’t cut his hair, lions like him, survives inside both whales and ovens, etc.

Wait a minute. Wonder Woman would be stoned to death for even showing up in public without a male escort and dressed the way she does.

They tried moving in that direction almost 40 years ago. Her male escort was a bling Asian named I-Ching. Mixing Greek mythology and Far-Eastern Pagan Mysticism didn't work out so well.

Baqi the Everlasting, who has superhuman powers of endurance

Now that would be a great superpower, very popular with the ladies.

I like, instead...

Team America: World Police
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_America:_World_Police

Team America Official Site
http://www.teamamerica.com/

I understand that over in Iraq, this was the favorite video shown over there (at least as far as our servicemen were concerned).

I like the clip about...

Derka Allah Mohammed Jihad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mdeIz6BQbU
[the short clip with cut portions...]

Derkha Derkha Muhammed Jihad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wmw8UB4HCU
[the longer clip with an extended portion...]

The Team America Video is hilarious, though... [some of it is a bit gross, though, if I remember correctly, there was a vomiting scene in there that was a bit over the top... LOL...]

AND..., here’s a marine over in Iraq that was featured on HotAir (Michelle Malkin) — and also CAIR (the Muslim front group) complained loudly about the song that this marine wrote and sung over there...

Hadji Girl (Marine from Iraq singing)
http://hotair.com/archives/2006/06/15/hadji-girl/

I always get a kick out of this liine...

“Durka Durka Mohammed Jihad, Sherpa Sherpa Bak Allah”

LOL....

Team America: World Police
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007Y08IS/

An elite U.S. counter-terrorism squad loses a member while decimating half of Paris in the reckless pursuit of Middle Eastern maniacs; a Broadway actor with a traumatic childhood secret is naturally hired to replace him. Oh—and they’re all marionettes. South Park maestros Trey Parker and Matt Stone (along with co-writer Pam Brady) came up with this shameless satire of pea-brained Hollywood action flicks and even smaller-minded global politics, so don’t expect subtlety or even a hint of good taste. Team America is soon on the trail of North Korea’s evil Kim Jong Il, who treats us to a tender song about his loneliness before ensnaring Alec Baldwin and the rest of the oblivious Film Actors Guild (F.A.G. for short) in a plot to blow up every major city on the planet. Just as the mindless squad cheerfully demolishes everything in sight, so do director Parker and company. Throwing punches Left, Right, and in-between, the movie’s politics leave no turn un-stoned; there’s even time to bludgeon the musical Rent. It’s offensive, irresponsible comic anarchy seemingly made by sniggering little boys. Painfully funny sniggering little boys.—Steve Wiecking

Hard to win battles when none of the female superheroes can beat a guy. Or try to move around in a burqa sack.

Wonder if the new muslim characters can sneak into a crowd, then by uttering the trigger phrase “Allah Akbar!” blow themselves up, and reconstitute themselves afterwards. After a brief respite with 72 virgins, of course.

See they are not going to like the fact that a woman character “has all the answers”. No, no no.

What I don't get is this coming from a comic book companies whose roots are largely Jewish. Jerry Siegel, Jerome Shucster, Mort Weisinger, Julius Schwarz, Elliot S! Maggin, Len Wein. The editors, writers and creators of the great DC heroes wouldn't have anything to do with Islam.

and what, oh what would SHAZAM! stand for?

Sunni/Shi'-ite warfare
Hussein's duplicity
Ali Baba's luck
Zakir Naik's Persuasiveness
Averroes' logic
Mohhamed's licentiousness

LOL...some other freeper made it, apparently the original clip was of Batman holding one of those round bombs with the sizzling fuse above his head...

There sure are some creative people on FR...:)
