Get Over it, Sarah is gone as a National Candidate
vanity | 7-5-09 | Bob J

Posted on 07/05/2009 10:24:13 AM PDT by Bob J

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy.

You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12.

BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast.

That so many conservatives can’t see this is one of the reasons we lose so often...in campaigns and ideology.

It’s quite sad but something I’ve learned to live with. At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement. But I’ve come to realize too many voluntarily ignore the ugly realities of politics and put their faith in Hail Mary passes, and frankly, are just too lazy for the time and effort needed to bring this country back to where they profess they want it to be.

you said:With this resignation, I don’t see the larger public’s perception of Palin improving, at least in the next few years. Don’t shoot the messenger.

I won’t shoot you but the 2102 vote is not being held next week. She resigned AK governorship but it’s clear she’s hardly quitting politics; she may soon be in Zero’s head 24/7

if she can expose Cap & trade and many other frauds to the public, she or her candidates will win in landslide(s)

I think SP is great. She has been in most repects more thoroughly vetted than anyone in history. I would like her to lay out HER positions on illegals etc a little more, but bottom line I agree with probably 75% already and trust her 100%. I cant imagine she will not be my first choice.

Hey Bob...
This chick sure has your mind in a scramble...

comparing Sarah Palin, leaving the Gov. Job in which she stated that her administration has accomplished in two years what she set out to do in four and she feels comfortable moving on with her professional life, she feels Alaska is in good hands...and you compare her to Ted Kennedy who was responsible for a young girl losing her life...no comparison there buddy....

Me thinks you are worried for Mitt who is history...

“Baloney. Those who give up on Sarah are the real quitters.”

Almost all Sarah fans are still behind her. She can and will still draw tens of thousands to any speaking events south of the Canadian border. 95% of the people you are reading negative comments from, where never supporters of her in the first place. I recognize many of the FR names after going head to head with them since September 08. Same people, same horse manure they dish out.

That will come in the future:

She’s got a journalism/ polycy degree.
She made the announcement in a down time/stole the attention....crated the excitement.
Those on vacation will insist on their say and prolong the fifteen minutes...
Then it will be about time for the official stepping down....more free publicity.

IIHC the book is due out in Sept. and she already had speaking engagments scheuduled starting in AUG, first in CA...it will be covered.

If she continues to repeat the four topics stated above she will cement her goals.

Sorry, but the way I see it there are a lot of people on this forum who are engaging in idol worship. Yeah, she has been the best of the national conservatives lately, but by quitting the governorship she ruined any chance of winning the presidency. Six months from now she will have disappeared from the national scene because the media that so much hates her can now ignore her. She no longer has a platform because she gave it up.

Whatever the case may be for her, bachmann and palin are the only two republican party members who could get my vote. Sorry, but I ain’t voting for testicle-less, intimidated white males any more. They are weak, and they are done.

At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement.

Perhaps it could but only if they don't get involved with the GOP because it has neither solid principles, sober and realistic goals nor a winning strategy. However you seem to be a staunch supporter of the tried and true, still clinging to your comfort "Binky".

When will well meaning people come to realize that "if you always do as you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got"?

Palin showed, even under the constraints of second banana, that she could deliver the conservative message, she could draw a crowd, bring in contributions and resurrect an almost dead McCain campaign.

Would you suggest the GOP drag out another war vet that is past their prime? Dole from WW II couldn't do it, McCain from 'Nam couldn't do it even though they were respected for their sacrifice for their country but neither had the drive, charisma, the spark to ignite the imagination of Americans across all political beliefs. Nobody cared how well respected they were by their fellow Senators and because of their many years in the senate, the people just didn't believe they would go head to head with their old colleagues. Dole was and McCain is known for compromise and that isn't going to win elections.

Palin as governor didn't compromise and as VP candidate emphatically stated that, and I paraphrase, she would kick ass and take names and the people cheered her on. McCain dropped the ball and Palin gets blamed.

Our country and the conservative movement is not in mortal danger from enemies without but from apathetic, naive and mentally dormant enemies within.

Good. Can we split the country now? Because we are never going to “get along” with the Left. Never.

You display a STUPENDOUS GROSS IGNORANCE here. The “Quitter” label will stick NOT when she goes on to something much bigger. Real quitter truly quit or go smaller, not bigger. Gross ignorance in spades...

This thread just amuses the heck out of me.

Don’t people realize that you don’t need to hold political office to be a leader?

This country has more than enough politicians. What we are drastically short of is leaders—people with character and principle who Do What Is Right rather than Do What Will Get Me (Re-)Elected.

And so, the hope that Palin is one of the latter, because we BADLY need someone like that right now.

Well, this thread has gone the way I expected. So many responses with expletives, one liners, calling my a RINO, a Mitt/McCain/Rudy lover, posts filled with quick draw emotional outburts...heheh.

I had hoped at least some would get all the way through my post before hitting the nuke button...no luck. I made a point to say that Sarah might choose to go the private route which meant maybe etting up a non profit or foundation and going on the speaking tour, pushing conservative issues and/or helping to elect good candidates. Maybe she’ll start a new talk radio show.

In other words she’s going for the gold...I don’t blame her at this point.

I said she might run for a House or Senate seat...she might even win and good for her. But my central point was that as a presidential candidate she is quite probably unelectable. She quit in the middle of her admininstration and that will be portrayed, and it will stick, as not being able to take the heat of national exposure. How does that change for a Prez run in ‘12?

She let down her constituents and the citizens of Alaska, blind sided her backers, devastated her supporters for a potential Prez run...

She quit and there isn’t any way to spin that in a good way.

As a private citizen and front person for conservative causes and issues I will support her. But as a Presidential candidate I could not for all the reasons mentioned. Not only do I believe she could not win, but I got a problem with someone who cuts and runs because the kitchen gets too hot. Sarah says all the right things but has proven she is no pit bull. Lipstick or not.

Politics is a dirty, nasty almost unholy game. If one doesn’t have what it takes to play, much less survive, then it’s best to get out while you still have some skin left. Sarah has done this and I respect her choice and hope she chooses to continue move the conservative ball downfield in another venue.

But it is clear she has signaled elective office is not for her. All I say is let’s abbreviate the grieving process so we can move on to efforts that don’t unnecessarily delay getting back to business.

So you think it is down to "move on" or I'm unrealistic and addle-minded, eh? You sure spotted me! And just in time to prevent an electoral catastrophe, too! What a stroke of luck. Since I'm obviously too damned dumb to play with you big kids, y'all just go ahead and anoint whomever you want from the deep bench bench of shallow has-beens, phonies and useless paperweights who can "win" in '12.

I'll bet that if Karl Rove isn't still busy trashing Sarah Palin, he'll even help you make the pick. He's a "magnificent bastard," you know.

"I won’t shoot you but the 2102 vote is not being held next week."

I suppose anything is possible, and three years can be an eternity in national politics. George H W Bush squandered a 91% approval rating in just 17 months, and Clinton went from a 36% approval rating (less than where national polls currently put Palin) in the fall of '94 to a convincing victory in his reelection bid.

But, I also recognize that Palin will be facing a very uphill battle because of the biased media with respect to winning over the broader, larger electorate. She's loved by the base to be sure, but it's the rest of the country she has to convince. That will be difficult given the fervor of her media opposition.

The fact of the matter is it's just harder for Republicans to come back from bad poll numbers, especially the last 40 years. It's just the way it is.

Not only do we need to replace Michael Steele at the RNC, but we also need to replace the lackluster GOP leadership in Congress. It's almost like Republicans in the House and Senate are going out of their way to be dull and not get any media attention for their message.

Replacing John Boehner with Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell with Jim DeMint would accomplish that.
These are too energetic and charasmatic leaders who could articulate the Republican message of limited government and fiscal restraint for the American people. Americans need to know what Republicans stand for. The GOP leadership is not doing a good job of getting that message out. So it is time to get them out.
