It seems like every time I venture into an Apple thread here on FR, it's similar to venturing over into Democratic Underground territory.
Personal attacks abound especially if you start criticizing Apple products or other Apple users for being naive into thinking Apple is everything their clever marketing department represents it to be.
It seems like the Mac ping list alerts the faithful flock to defend Apple to the death and that is when the claws come out and it starts to get ugly.
You might also want to consider the bias of someone that claims 9 to 1 PC users are meaner than Apple users when the facts generally point to the complete opposite of that, hence my starting of this very thread. If there is a PC related thread I don’t see PC users resembling DUmmies, and the only time I see that entering the thread is when the Apple Elite appear.
That is not the point you've been making so don't try to pretend it is. Actual turn around time is about three hours. Not bad for five years. But let's assume it is "all day?" Let's see... what is that in percentage of the time you've owned the computer. Assuming "all day" means twelve hours, and that the lifetime is exactly 5 years (including one leap year ;^)>) which is 43,824 hours, then the time you might be without your MacBook Pro is .02738% of the time you've owned it. How onerous. What a burden.
What about if you ship it off (Apple claims three day turn around). So let's allow 2nd day air as reasonable... so make it one seven day week. There are 260 weeks in five years. So you'd be without your beloved notebook computer for .385% of the time you own it. That is just too much to bear... so get your panties in a wad, drop to the ground and have a tantrum.
Frankly, if I need to replace the battery, I probably will do it after the five years so I can hand the notebook down to a grandchild and buy a new one that has far better specs for the NEXT five years of happy, productive computing. If I had bought the 13" I would have amortized just $20 a month for my computer. Add the cost of a new battery after five years, that cost would be $2 more. Not a worry to me.
Yeah, I wasn’t certain on that. I did a quick search and saw the Hitachi brand. I know that my G4 used a Seagate. Like I said my experience is WD is the best...it’s good to hear their using them in Macs now-maybe they just use whatever their procurement department orders at that time.
Eh. I suppose so. I look at the Mac threads because I have one and I can learn things, but I think this animosity is over the top.
I have a Mac because Microsoft forced me into it, that’s my beef. It’s a good, albeit expensive. machine.
You stats: [Assuming "all day" means twelve hours, and that the lifetime is exactly 5 years (including one leap year ;^)>) which is 43,824 hours, then the time you might be without your MacBook Pro is .02738% of the time you've owned it. How onerous. What a burden.] is totally irrelevant to me. I don't care how many years or hours or whatever I don't want to have to bring my computer anywhere if I don't have to.
Unless that $8 per hourI'm in California where they add a buck to the federal minimum wage) iGenius Dude is working for the CIA, wouldn't worry too much. I keep my user space encrypted with AES 128 bit encryption with FileVault. Don't you?
Yeah I bought it, messed up and DID NOT ACTIVATE IT and the cost was around $150...and she got a complete refurb for that cost...they COULD have told me to pound sand.
you’re just trying to stir the pot...I’m a FREEPER for God’s sake along with hundreds of other Freeper Mac users, we’re not gay, MacBots or whatever, conservative to the core...why do you take the pride to ATTACK Freeper Mac users? How stupid is that?
Later, I’ve got bigger things going on in my life...
Rounding up is $2500.
$3000, 20%, is deliberate exaggeration. FUD.
And, you used that exaggerated $3K figure to compare to a $400 crap PC. More FUD.
Admit it. You got caught.
I really hate in when my phone goes on the blink. I have to have (shudder) people come to my home. I really hate that. It’s worse hsving to take stuff somewhere.
When you consider stuff tends to entropy, I’m faced with more and more stuff breaking down. And I just got a Kindle to boot....
In this age of Obama are you prepared to allow the government to be the only ones with a supply of toilet paper so any time to use the restroom, you need to have the government to wipe your a$$? This is the same parallel as having to go to Apple for them to change out a battery in your laptop. Totally unnecessary and slightly controlling. BTW I never knew Big Brother was one Steve Jobs.
I don’t own a Mac so I don’t know if or what encryption is available.
Cyber, the future is now. Those Macs are available right now. The 17" has been available since February and the 13" and 15" started shipping on June 8th.
I saw that. This is going to be a fun ride.
Don't think it's a "design problem." I think it might be a batch of bad Li-Poly batteries in one or two production runs of the iPhone 3GS.
Is it the Kindle II? Seems interesting.
Did you know the original Kodak box camera had to have the film changed at the factory? Business models change, and sometimes in ways we don’t predict.
I’ve had my Palm for years, run the battery up and down constantly, and have never had a problem. It’s possible to have an integrated battery, it just scares me in laptops.
Kindle DX. Big screen, software that reads the text if you want. Way cool. I got it the first day it came out. The “electronic paper” display is unlike anything I’d seen before.
Explain how I am lying about Genius Bar procedures? DO TELL....
As well it should.
