Roger Hamilton told police he was sitting on a bus station bench, preparing to put mayonnaise on his bologna and cheese sandwich, when a man wearing headphones began staring at him.

Hamilton, 24, told police he asked the man if he could help him, but before he knew it, the man punched him in the mouth and snatched his sandwich.

When police arrived at the Hudson Street bus station Wednesday, they found Hamilton with a swollen lip and his face covered in blood.

Hamilton told police he did not know the man or why he assaulted him and stole his sandwich. He described him as a black man who appeared to be in his 30s.

The police report values the sandwich at 76 cents.

“Seems like you meet the nicest folks at the bus station.”

Sometimes you do ... unless they are OBOMA PEOPLE.

I had a similar experience in Paris a number of years ago. Some thug started fighting with me and stole the sandwich that I was eating. I called the police and he was hauled away. I did not see the event as newsworthy but times have changed.

“preparing to put mayonnaise on his bologna and cheese sandwich”

Here is the problem: He was obviously a connoisseur of the bologna and knew it was a culinary crime to put mayonnaise where only mustard should be.

Put some ice on it. It’s better for everybody when you spread the wealth around.

There’s a S&W/Winchester ad waiting to be made here.

List the items of the sandwich and their values.
Then the firearm and its value...
The bullets and their value...

And finishing with this:
“Defending yourself from attack and theft: Priceless.”
