Dear Fellow FReepers, moral clarity needed.
My stepson just graduated from college and has moved back home.
Twice now I have woken up to find them both sleeping in his bed.
I don't like it, but my wife doesn't have a huge problem with it, since they have been dating almost a year. However, she says she will back me up on it.
Am I being reasonable? I am planning on nipping it in the bud tonight, but just wanted to run it by my fellow FReepers.
Thank you.
While I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it, it’s your house, and your rules.
Is she cute and income producing?
I wouldn’t if it was my son. He’s not married.
is it your house or her house? If your house, then you have every right to tell him no. If it’s her house, then you have no case..
If it bothers you that much tell them about it.
Don't just forbid it outright but tell them and see what comes of it.
If they don't respect you enough to abide by your wishes, THEN forbid it.
If you don’t like it, don’t allow it.
I would tell him if he wants to shack up with her, he needs to move out and get his own place. But that’s just me.
Its your house. If he doesn’t like your rules, he certainly can get his own place.
Would your grandparents have allowed your mother or father to have their girl/boyfriend spend the night at their home?
Tell him to get a job and his own place. Until then, no sleepovers.
No way. It’s your house not his and unless he’s paying rent he has no rights. You let him do this and what;s next. Is your goal for hime to grow u and get his own place/ I recommend you watch “Failure to Launch” together and then ask him if he wants to grow up or not?
Is the girl an adult?
Its your house and your rules, IMO. Just remember he is an adult.
Your house your rules.
My father wouldn’t allow it when I was in my early 20’s.
It’s a matter of respect.
NO!
My parents’ rule was that if you weren’t married you didn’t spend the night in the same room. It got a little interesting when my dad’s came for a visit with her boyfriend a number of years after her husband passed away. I really can’t remember but I’m guessing the bent the rules for this case.
haha! He could always put up a webcam and charge for people to watch. Would make for great side business in this horrific economy.
*cough* ack, sputter
It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest, but it’s your house...
Your house, your rules.
Personally, if my adult child moved back home it would be under the precondition that they produce income and help contribute to the household expenses, in which case I would view them more as a roommate and would stay out of their business with respect to having a girlfriend sleep over.
