Fusion is like the flying car, always 20 years away.

I really hope the word “oops” isn’t heard. Or “Mi Hao” by someone in China looking up at a bunch of scientists through a recently burned tunnel through the planet.

The National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore Lab will focus 192 laser beams on a hydrogen pellet the size of a bead, heating it to incredible temperatures in an attempt to recreate the power of the sun.
"...in essence, a sophisticated heat beam which we called a "laser"..."

Hey, I got one of those!
This here is my laser:

This this here is Anabelle, my laser reactor:

For real, she goes nuts for it. Then my wife reprimands me for taunting the cat, so technically she is also a laser reactor.

Gee imagine that!
A National Ignition Facility who would ever of thought we had one?
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Energy Secretary Steven Chu were scheduled to appear at the ceremony, which begins at 10:30 a.m. PDT. I hope nothing goes wrong!

Nuclear fusion has never been achieved on Earth, ... Bah. I wish these people would check their facts. They already said it was done with the weapons testing. The FarnsworthHirsch Fusor can be done in high school science labs. GE had a pavilion at the 1964-65 NY World's Fair that I remember to this day seeing the fusion reaction demonstrated in a public setting:

This approach to fusion is a piece of dog poo. And yes, I’m putting my money where my mouth is.
Speaking of predictions about Fusion...
Check out the contract at Intrade for Cold Fusion. I have bid 500 contracts at $5.50, so if anyone thinks Im a fool they can make a bunch of money from me. Just buy the contracts.

The purpose of the NIF is to test the condition of nuclear weapons, not energy research.

Mean while, in Europe, the Tokamak is being built and will be the actually useful fusion reactor.
