A woman and her 13-year-old son who were on the run from court-ordered cancer treatment for the boy have returned to Minnesota, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
"Daniel Hauser and his mother have been returned to Minnesota," according to a news release. It did not reveal any additional details, but said there would be a news conference Monday evening.
The FBI's affidavit in support of an arrest warrant for Colleen alleges she fled the state Tuesday to avoid being prosecuted on two state counts of depriving another of custodial or parental rights in Brown County.
The FBI said the pair flew from Minnesota to Los Angeles last Tuesday on Sun Country Airlines. Investigators suspected they might have headed to one of a number of alternative cancer clinics in northern Mexico.

Why is it that a 13 year old is deemed competent to decide whether or not to have an abortion, but is not permitted to decide whether or not to have chemo therapy?

You are the one who won’t stick to the topic. All I can guess is that you don’t have a valid argument, and so you don’t want to answer my questions. Whatever....

Chemo giving him a serious blood clot has nothing to do with this?

Oh don’t be stupid,,of course there are complications in treating someone with chemo. But a certain death from not treating seems to outweigh any complication.
Blood clots in the arm are rarely fatal,,they are treatable.
THere is a risk benefit assessment in any medical treatment. If the risk is to have a ringworm you obviously won’t use a medicine that may kill you. But when the risk is death by cancer, you take it for the benefit of not dying.
To: DJ MacWoW
Obviously in some cases they do. One does not have to imagine we must live in anarchy or in a police state. Those are not the only two options. Do you think there are no cases in which the government CAN interfere? (you never have answered me about abortion—which, while it’s not what this case is about, your answer would inform me of your standing on the government interfering in personal choices and parent/child interactions).

Having some experience with cancer, I site the n% because what is being told is if you go through the treatment your 5 year survival rate is 90-95% in this particular cancer. I have a young friend who just finished treatment for this very cancer. They told him this cancer is 95% curable. The article implies 100% and is just not the case.

I think when you are cured, it is 100 percent. Only 95 people out of 100 get this cure. But if you get it, you get it, you don’t get 95 percent of it.
So the cancer is curable.
To: svcw
NOthing is 100%. On the other hand, if you read what I posted, you will see it is NOT the 5 year survival rate that is being talked about, it is a rate for people going into remission.

I read your posts and decided you had a very ignorant take on this.
Reading the transcript doesn’t make you smart about it.
To: brytlea
Wow stitches verses chemo therapy. I see the comparison.

I am a conservative and believe in limited government.
There used to be a time when societies reaction to events and actions caused people to "behave" or be moral. Now there is little shame and the government controls peoples behaviour more and more. We have lost the ability to be a moral and ethical society. Make a moral judgment and you hear "Don't hate!" We have come to believe that government has the right to interfere in every aspect of our lives. We have replaced polite society with government control. It will only get worse.
"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." George Washington
Good night. Have a peaceful one.

OK
.
Do you believe that a parent has the right to have incestuous relations with their children?
Do you believe that a parent has the right to marry off a twelve year old girl to a 50 year old man?
Do you believe that a parent has the right to withhold food and water and lock their child in a closet for weeks on end as punishment for wetting the bed?
Do you believe that a parent has a right to blow pot smoke in the face of a mentally disabled two-year old and post it as a Youtube video without fear of criminal prosecution?
Do you believe that a parent has the right to submit their children to ritualized physical or sexual abuse because their religious cult says its a good thing? What about human sacrifice for that matter?
Do you believe that a parent has a right to abort their child in a late term abortion at 32 weeks?

Chemo for this type cancer is proven to be effective, unlike other chemo. I agree with you in principle, but this is a sort of decision like--what if mom's religious beliefs called for son to be sent into the desert with a thermos and a loaf of bread to stay a month, and told God would provide, and he would come back with a man's experience--no training, no weapons, just Mom's faith. He is attacked by coyotes and killed. Should the state interfere because it is charged with keeping safe, or does a parent have that right?
Not a really good analogy, but the state says we have a right to life (except when it promotes abortion of innocents) so there is a conflict with the parent in this instance.
