Thank YOU, Amy, for the 'boatload' of graphics you sent me last week to play with. We were both on the same page with that banana boat graphic! I couldn't wait to get the song and lyrics and put it all together!

Your butterflies and that soft blue frame are one of your PRETTIEST yet!

That glass of orange juice made me go to the kitchen and pour myself a glass! Pretty bluebird, pretty frame.

When I saw the finished product, I was anxious for Monday to get here. The Banana Boat was one that couldn’t wait to be posted. :)

Thank you for your compliments on my Butterflies. I am finally getting comfortable with trying some new frames and new textures.

Thank you for the new graphics .... there are some there that are anxious to be posted. :)

Good! There were so many that just grabbed me and said, "Use me, use me!" :)

I'm going to post Tuesday's opening and then saying goodnight. Don't know what time I'll be here in the morning - seems like I'm always late getting here. :)

VIVA! el CINCO DE MAYO!!

A Cinco de Mayo party is not a party without traditional Mexican food. Mexico has a very diverse cuisine culture. All regions serve up their own specialties from Mole Poblano in Puebla to Huevos Rancheros in Sonora to Cochinita Pibil in Yucatan. Below you'll find a list of basic items you may see on a menu or in a grocery store or you may browse through specialty dishes or learn traditional recipes from all areas of Mexico. Remember just because you've had a taco or enchilada doesn't mean you've experienced Mexican food, it only means you've scratched the surface of this country's traditional, culinary delights.

Here are the basic food groups: Carnes (meats), Pescado (fish) & Mariscos (shellfish), Legumbres (vegetables), Frutas (fruits) & Nueces (nuts), Bebidas (drinks), Especias (spices) & Condimentos (condiments), Postres (desserts) & Dulces (sweets).

Mexican food means different things in different parts of the United States; in Texas the Tex-Mex style is very popular - with fajitas (tender strips of grilled beef or chicken - sometimes shrimp - wrapped in a soft flour tortilla) being high on the list. Of course, one must either drink Sangria Wine or a Margarita (YES!) when they dine on Mexican food.

For dessert, try a sopapilla (similar to a doughnut) drenched in butter and honey, or the more sinfully rich, flan (recipe below):

Traditional Caramel Custard

3/4 cup sugar
1 quart milk
pinch of sea salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 2-inch cinnamon stick or vanilla bean
1 small piece orange or lime rind (optional)
4 eggs
6 egg yolks

Heat the sugar for the caramel in a small, heavy frying pan over low heat until it begins to dissolve. Shake the pan slightly (do not stir) until all the sugar has melted. Increase the flame and let the sugar bubble and color. Pour the caramel into the mold and quickly turn it around in all directions, tipping it up in a circular motion until the surface, bottom and about 2 inches up the sides has been lightly coated with the caramel. If the caramel thickens and becomes sluggish, gently heat the mold in a pan of hot water or over low heat, depending on the material, and continue the coating action. Set aside to cool.

Put the milk, salt, sugar, and cinnamon or vanilla into a saucepan and bring slowly to a boil, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Continue boiling slowly, taking care that it does not boil over, until the milk has reduced by about 2/3 cup. Set aside to cool. Place an oven rack on the lowest rung of the oven and heat to 325 degrees F. Beat the eggs and yolks together and stir into the tepid milk. Pour the mixture through a strainer into the flan mold and place it in a hot water bath in the oven. Test after 2 hours with a skewer or cake tester; if it comes out quite clean, the flan is cooked. Remove from the oven, but allow to sit in the water bath for about 15 minutes longer. Remove and set aside to cool completely before refrigerating.

To unmold, carefully slip a blunt-ended, thin metal spatula around the rim of the flan and gently tip the mold from side to side to see if the flan is loose. If the caramel has hardened at the bottom of the mold, place it in a pan of hot water for a short time and test again. Place the serving dish - it must have a rim to hold the syrup - on top of the mold, invert quickly, and pray that the flan comes out whole. Always serve a wedge of the flan with plenty of the extra syrup.

Yield: 8 servings

Still Small Voice
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! —Psalm 46:10

When God spoke to Elijah on Mount Horeb, He could have done so in the wind, earthquake, or fire. But He didn’t. He spoke with a “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12). God asked, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (v.13), as he hid from Jezebel who had threatened to kill him.

Elijah’s reply revealed what God already knew—the depth of his fear and discouragement. He said, in effect, “Lord, I have been most zealous when others have forsaken You. What do I get for being the only one standing up for You?” (see v.14).

Was Elijah really the only one serving God? No. God had “seven thousand in Israel . . . whose knees have not bowed to Baal” (v.18).

In the depths of our fear or despair, we too may think we’re the only one serving God. That may happen right after the height of a success, as it did for Elijah. Psalm 46:10 reminds us to “be still, and know” that He is God. The sooner we focus on Him and His power, the quicker we will see relief from our fear and self-pity.

Both the clashing cymbals of our failures and the loud trumpeting of our successes can drown out God’s still small voice. It’s time for us to quiet our hearts to listen for Him as we meditate on His Word.

Keep listening for the “still small voice”
If you are weary on life’s road;
The Lord will make your heart rejoice
If you will let Him take your load. —Hess

To tune in to God’s voice we must tune out this world’s noise.

Sorry I haven’t been around, didn’t see the change of thread notice on the other thread, been posting there.

Here’s a couple of poems to share.

Hey O

Dark the Patriot’s rage, hot the fire within
And a mortal man stands up against the din
Enough is enough, no more can a soul stand
And fall if I must, your actions must be banned

Faith was lost with the first of your damn lies
And trust eroded by honor lost as hope flies
I am just one of many who see the falsity of you
Echoed in every step and word and deed you do

My land, that shining city on the hill you demean
By every word you speak, ever act we’ve seen
Freedom has a price, and clearly we need to pay it again
If we want a chance to be better then your socialist din

I’m an American, and all that entails of honor and trust
And I will not abide your driven cruel nationalist lust
I defy you and your ilk, ruining all for power political gain
There can be no rhyme or reason for such acts insane

Evil is as evil does, and you will find that in the end game
The joker in the pack, will be one wearing your own name
We are going restless, seeing that which fuels our fire
And you and yours will have to deal with that white-hot ire

You act as if you were my leader, and that can’t be true
For you, I reject, by each self-aggrandizing move you do
Teleprompter puppet leaning left in hate of American ways
Times a coming when we, the pipers, you’ll have to pay

You’ve gone too far and going further still, at a tyrant’s pace
Hoping the unwashed masses don’t revolt and stop this race
Seeking to conquer all before the awakening of their anger hot
Making children your mindless minions with lies into robots

Four years, and then we get the chance to ruin all you wrought
And we will remember the evil that you have done and sought
We’ll remember and pay it back in the voting booth with glee
And the failed socialist utopia you crave we’ll dump, you’ll see

and

Along The Road

In my mind is a bridge, an old stone and wooden arch
beneath it a stream of time, my aching thirst to parch
Memories carried to the sea of Time, and then beyond
to distant ancient places this day hasn’t yet dawned
There, to await me again, in a distant eternity so fair
where my tattered soul can heal and renew with care

Over the bridge, a great willow bows in graceful peace
the silence of that moment will shed pain in sweet release
Amid the branches flit the shadows of the Tanager’s flight
singing of praises with their open hearts illuminated bright
The wind sings through the trees in muted chorus sweet
as the shadows chase each other to Life’s rhythmic beat

The ancient road comes from a distant past, going on
passing over the bridge and curving off till dawn
Draped by the cool shadows of the willow’s caress
a traveler pauses, to recover from the journey’s press
I long to rest there, to find that inner peace I so desire
for I am weary, my road so long, from which I tire

Mountains I have climbed to converse with a star
up in such clear air, where everything is on par
Canyons narrow and dark, rocky wounds in the earth
I explored, to discover the road not taken, yet so of worth
I sailed seas to find a distant shore back to home again
Memories of them all to later wash away all old pains

Great ‘wing’ recipe by the way!
