Film director Ron Howard is very optimistic about the future of America, so long as the nation makes an adjustment, to fulfill his hope a more progressive nation will mean at a certain point I don't think we'll be so consumed with being the pre-eminent super-power and, you know, driven by sort of militarism and this need to export, you know, democracy. Howard's reasoning, on Friday night's Real Time with Bill Maher, came in response to Maher's formulation that America has seen better days. We're sort of in place that has made a lot of people nervous. Some people would say this country has jumped the shark.
Howard, who is out promoting 'Angels & Demons,' a sequel to 'The Da Vinci Code,' replied: I'm a very optimistic person and I don't want to feel like there isn't growth, but there needs to be an adjustment anyway. He proceeded to credit the insights he gained working on his movies with Europeans: I've actually spent a lot more time in Europe and working with crew members and actors and understanding how they live and how they think. Howard predicted our lives are going to be better because we're going to be more progressive. Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Opie For President!
On second thought, no thanks.
He is still living in Mayberry. Nice fantasy world.
If he were living in Mayberry, he would be a conservative :)
That's not hard to be, these days.
Anyone who's conservative and pays to see any of his movies, might as well just mail a donation to the DNC.
If the guy makes a good movie, who cares about his politics?
Exporting democracy!!! Perish the thought. What a complete jackass.
So he filmed two movies in Europe and fell in love with socialism????? well.... good for him, let him move to France.
Go to hell Ron.
I yearn for a much less powerful Hollywood not ‘driven by defeatism’.
It’s amusing how all these lib rats talk about the “evils” of America behind the safety of their palatial estates. I would love to see these idiots in South Central LA, or maybe Compton. Let them walk in the shoes of normal Americans, then we’ll see how bad it is.
In fact, they can take a stroll in either Tijuana or Ciudad Juarez. Maybe that will open the eyes of these pampered a-holes. Then they can see that the outside world is dangerous and chaotic.
For the rest of us, we know how good we have it here.
Opie never grew up, did he.
Sit on it, Richie.
> HOWARD: Yeah, and I don’t think we’ll be, at a certain point I don’t think we’ll be so consumed with being the pre-eminent super-power and, you know, driven by sort of militarism and this need to export, you know, democracy.
How intellectual of Opie. Directs movies about NASA, mermaids, a Nixon interview and he becomes a foreign policy expert.
Hey Opie! How many suckers did you catch when fishing at Mayberry??
I wonder how well his movies do overseas? Something tells me the rest of the world don’t care what Opie thinks.
During the 2008 presidential campaign I saw Howard and Griffith's Pro-Obama campaign videos, as Andy and Opey.
I vowed at that point to never watch that show again, and I haven't.
Hollywood celebutards are given free reign to say the most outlandish things in very friendly forums. They know that no matter what they say, they won't be challenged. Which is the complete opposite of what will happen to someone from Hollywood with a conservative viewpoint.
If Hollywood was a egalitarian, scholarly place where all political viewpoints are explored in an even-handed manner, I couldn't care less what Ron Howard says because I would know that there would be some counter-point voiced at some time. But, there isn't.
The only way to fight back for a conservative is to vote with their feet, or in this case their wallets. Lower ticket sales mean less prestige for the actors, directors and producers. Less prestige means less opportunities to say crazy-a$$ things in very friendly forums.
WE certainly won’t be exporting what we don’t have anymore.
I’ll be danged if it isn’t sounding like 1978 all over again, only this time it’s Obama who is incapable of dealing with Iran instead of Carter. Wasn’t Happy Days going strong that year?
Well done, Large_Simian.
I use to agree with your point of view, but as things have progressed to rampant socialism in this country I am of the mindset that you need to put your money where your mouth is.
Don’t support those who undermine your core beliefs. Don’t pay to see their movies(propaganda),
music(propaganda), plays(propaganda),sports(propaganda), television(propaganda, concerts/events (propaganda)...
Don’t support their message by supporting their activities.
We are in a war that once was a war of ideas, but now is a war to protect who we are, what we are and where we came from.
Not a dime to the fifth column.
