Interesting list. All the things can go except my personal checks and my answering machine. I am not ready to put all my personal banking on line and I don’t give out my cell phone number freely so people can call me when I am out. Just old fashioned I guess.

I understand what you mean! My son has been trying to get me to pay my bills online. He says it only takes a few minutes and he knows how long it takes me to get out all that stuff and write checks, etc. I haven’t give in to it yet even though he does his that way.

Same with cell phones. Just my family can reach me when I am out somewhere! I am old fashioned for sure! LOL!

A note here, if the bees go, so do a lot of crops pollinated by those bees! now imagine a lot of folks not getting a lot of foods now available because of those bees!

18. VCRs For the better part of three decades, the VCR was a best-seller and staple in every American household until being completely decimated by the DVD, and now the Digital Video Recorder (DVR). In fact, the only remnants of the VHS age at your local Wal-Mart or Radio Shack are blank VHS tapes these days. Pre-recorded VHS tapes are largely gone and VHS decks are practically nowhere to be found. They served us so well.

I do think that many of the 24 things mentioned are things that most of us have probably already just about quit using anyway, but wanted to say something about this one, because I remember seeing someone inquiring about it the other day.

A year or so ago, I bought a combination DVR/VCR, because we had several VHS tapes that were practically useless after we disconnected the VCR from the last TV. I had some personal VHS tapes that I'd recorded because I wanted to save them - and of course have several movies on VHS tapes - thank goodness the combination machine allowed me to dub the VHS tapes to a DVD!

Anyway, thank you for this list, and no way do they need to add "Jaycee" to the list. :)

Regarding #21 - Dial Up Internet - AT&T! Please! Will you EVER replace your antiquated phone lines in the boonies? :(

THE COMPUTER SWALLOWED GRANDMA

The computer swallowed grandma.
Yes, honestly its true!
She pressed ‘control’ and ‘enter’
And disappeared from view.

It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.

I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.

In desperation, I asked Jeeves
My searches to refine.
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found ‘online.’

So, if inside your ‘Inbox,’
My Grandma you should see,
Please ‘Copy,’’Scan’ and ‘Paste’ her
And send her back to me.

Beautiful graphic and poem, Billie. Graphic’s drama is moving and the poem is beautifully real.

Interesting list you've presented jaycee.

The last drive-in theater in our neck of the woods closed this year. At least A&W Drive-Ins aren't on the list. We still have one in our fair city (don't care what Forbes says - I like it here). They still have car-hops on roller skates. A fun place on Friday nights... A live band sets up in the corner of the parking lot. The owner has an old Packard parked on site with the A&W logo emblazoned on the front doors.

Now Billie, you're not gonna have kind thoughts towards me because of your dial-up situation, but I received an e-mail this am with a PowerPoint presentation, "Highway of Heroes". It came as an attachment on the e-mail and it's fantastic! I searched the internet to find a site that is hosting the presentation and here's a link... BTW, have a box of Kleenex handy...

Highway of Heroes
click the links, you won't be disappointed

Spring Pools

These pools that, though in forests, still reflect
The total sky almost without defect,
And like the flowers beside them, chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone,
And yet not out by any brook or river,
But up by roots to bring dark foliage on.

The trees that have it in their pent-up buds
To darken nature and be summer woods -
Let them think twice before they use their powers
To blot out and drink up and sweep away
These flowery waters and these watery flowers
From snow that melted only yesterday.

Robert Frost

Billie, can you get Qwest? AT&T caused me so much trouble - so I switched several years ago.

I'll check to see if it's available for my area code & number. The problem is that there are so many companies and services that sound so good, and when I check into them, sorry, they don't have high speed internet available for my area. :(

I am seeing in my brief look at their site, they have DirectTV as opposed to Dish, which we are very satisfied with.

Rock and a hard place and all. :(

Overall, I am pleased with AT&T and we have been a customer forever - two house phone numbers & two cell phone numbers, as well as Dish through AT&T. I just keep wanting a Broadband through AT&T, and it's not available. We could get Dish internet via AT&T, but I'm not interested in satellite internet - have heard too many negative reports about the service, and as slow as dialup is, it's at least reliable and always on. We're not close enough to a cable box to get an underground cable line.

Okay - I just put my address in the questionaire, and went to the state box to click on TX, and Texas isn’t even in their list of available states.

Thank you so much, LJ, and I also want to thank yorkie - who sent that little graphic to me not long ago, saying she found it interesting - and I did, too. :) I thought at first for a Wear Red Friday graphic, but then changed my mind and thought it was good with the lyrics I posted with it this morning.

The Road Not Taken

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost

Thank you for sharing “Highway of Heroes”, Dave! Beautiful! (but, no Lee Greenwood)

I hope WayzataJOHNN sees it, too. There IS love, respect and honor of our troops, not only in America.

I can’t do Power Point presentations, Dave. Know there are many wonderful presentations, but I always remove Microsoft Office Suite when it comes with a new computer because it’s so huge a program and I don’t need or want to learn to use it when I have other software that I am already familiar with that does everything I want.
