Historic documentation of Union Bullying needed.
Self

Posted on 03/10/2009 11:14:40 PM PDT by PizzaDriver

Our eldest Son is a Union Member, an Ex-marine & is reading "Atlas Shrugged".

He doesn't believe that Unions EVER used intimation or threats of violence as they dealt with workers in a not yet unionized workplace. He doesn't believe that there was a time when Unions could force their way in, without a Secret Ballot.

Sue and I need links to old Text Books, Newspapers, and Court Records that prove our Worries are valid.

A list of DVDs of old movies that portrayed Union terrorism might help, too.

Google for “union violence.” (Click this link.)

Have him watch “On the Waterfront.” It’s based on a real priest.

A little off-topic, but I keep reading this sort of comment from Freepers ["I can't talk to my children about Obama blah blah blah"] and all I can think of when I encounter it is: Good God man, where were you during your children's formative years?

Why did you abdicate your responsibility to teach your children the difference between right and wrong?

And having abdicated that responsibility, why are you now surprised at the mess you have on your hands?

I looked up “union terror tactics” on google, and once past the “google bombs” from socialist sites like indymedia, I found some of the following:

Also look up “National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation”.

Any large library is likely to have books written in past decades that can shed light on this period of history for you to share with your son if that is what he wants to see. I’m sure some historical museums would have exhibits about deaths and such if you are near an area where the violence occurred. Books or movies (even on YouTube) particularly as it relates to Chicago History, for instance, could get you started as well.

The poster who suggested the google search was right. If you Google a few keyword together you can usually find a lot of information from usually pretty reputable sources. You can print out historical documents, and/or photos to show him, too.

Just as a little side note; as the son and nephew of proud Marines, there is no such thing as an ex-Marine. You are always a Marine, but you may not be active duty. That was drilled in to my head by my father, and he got in any one’s face who called him an “ex-Marine”.

All i can say it is a two way street. Many a man lay in the street with his head bashed in due to hired Pinkerton thugs. You can all criticize me but far as i am concerned the country as a whole is better off due to unions. If it were up to large corporation we would all be making the same wages as third world countries. At present the de-unionization in this country has led to a mass exodus of jobs as companies abandon America in favor of sub living wages. Now that we have this global economy all our wages sink into the dismal abyss. That is union and non union. For you making extremely large salaries all i can say they are coming for you next because you can be replaced by some Habib in some far away country.

As an former Shop Steward, Business Agent, and Union organizer (my first wife was also an organizer) I can tell you and your son that not only do Unions routinely engage in acts of intimidation and violence, but I can assure you that during the time when the Wagner Act was in force, these excesses were even more severe than they have been since the passage of Taft-Hartley in the 1950's, which gave Union certification elections a secret ballot which Big Labor is now attempting to take away.

I can also tell you as someone who has testified in both Federal Court and before panels of the National Labor Relations Board, and been deponed numerous times by NLRB officers, that the current Union certification process is already very heavily slanted in favor of Big Labor. The NLRB never saw a Union certification election they didn't like, and they go to very great lengths to make sure that ONLY the people the Unions want in the bargaining unit are included in the election -- provided it helps their cause.

Your son doesn't know, because it is very well hidden from the rank-and-file just how thoroughly radicalized the American Labor movement is at the top: visit my homepage to get the story of my own epiphany. Believe me when I tell you that if the SEIU or NEA (probably the most radical of the Unions) came out tomorrow and called for the violent overthrow of the US Government in favor of a Communist Dictatorship, the only surprise in their announcement would be that they've finally gone public.

Your son is being used, just as I was.

See my post #12.

And while I agree with you that working men and women still do need Unions in some cases, the political leadership of ALL Unions is thoroughly FAR left-wing and thoroughly radicalized. I also question why Teachers, State Employees, and professional white collar employees need to have Unions: that is not what the guys with their skulls busted by "Steel Police" or "Mine Police" or Pinkertons had in mind when they were fighting for the right to bargain collectively. It simply isn't.

As non union people who work in many union situations, I could give you a raft of stories where we have suffered intimidation, interference, threats of violence, and damage at the hands of the union. If you want first hand stories, freepmail me.

"...You can all criticize me but far as i am concerned the country as a whole is better off due to unions..."

UAW? The UAW is nearly single-handedly responsible for the demise of the US auto industry. Utter greed.

NEA? The NEA is probably the one reason our educational system sucks, in spite of our spending vast sums of money on education (in total dollars, more than any other country) and people like Barack Obama and other liberals who think the solution is to spend more. The NEA and other teachers unions are interested in ONE thing: Greed and self interest. They don't give a RAT'S ASS about education, it is about tenure, pay and damned time off.

Sure. Unions had a place back in the day of JP Morgan, but when the pay of the average UAW worker reaches nearly $40 an hour and BANKRUPT an ENTIRE INDUSTRY, then it is not just "looking out for the workers" it is GREED. (GM officials say the average reaches $39.68 an hour, including base pay, cost-of-living adjustments, night-shift premiums, overtime, holiday and vacation pay. Health-care, pension and other benefits average another $33.58 an hour)

That, and I DETEST the THUGGISH and RUDE behavior of unions towards non-union workers. You don't think they do? Gee, how about those big inflatable RATS they put outside places, PAID for with UNION money. And that is TYPICAL behavior.

When I hear people say "as far as I am concerned" that is about as far as it goes. Unions suck, and as much as anything are responsible for the decline in our ability to manufacture goods.

Have him research Walter Reuther and the United Auto Workers violent sit in strikes of the 1930's.

If that doesn't open his eyes that will be something.

Back in the 1970’s I belonged to a union. We made boats for the Armed Services. We went on strike for 5 months for a 10 cent per hour raise. My family starved. Jobs were scarce back then too so finding another job was impossible. I lost so much in wages for that lousy 10 cents the union made us strike for.Nuff Said.
