I'm thinking of Idiocracy, Being There with Peter Sellers or perhaps another. Suggestions?
Face in a Crowd sounds like Elmer Gantry, except they used religion instead of entertainment.
I was thinking Meet John Doe because the whole political movement originally was based on a lie.
I like your Face in the Crowd script!!!
Gantry wasn't an arrogant SOB, just a person who knew the Bible and was good with people, who glommed onto a gravy train until the train ran its course. You could say that Gantry pretended to be a True Believer, but he was a huckster more than someone who looked down on the people who helped elevate him.

After watching that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry! Good help us all.
How about the German movie, The Lives of Others.
It is an obscure Marlon Brando film called “Burn”
BLACULA
But, I'll go for something a tad offbeat:
“Split Second”, 1953. Arrogant psychopathic gangster leads his gang, along with innocent hostages, to what he thinks is a perfect hideout, a desert ghost town. Only to discover the town is actually an atomic bomb test site. He foolishly waits until the last possible moment to flee the area, and then, instead of running away from the test, his stupid arrogance causes him to drive right to the tower that has the bomb...
The original, not the Matthew Broderick remake.
Little Shop of Horrors, the original...

Dumb and Dumber
How right on time...on sci-fi right now we’re watching
‘See no evil’
about a psycho in an old run down hotel that likes to collect eyeballs...if the victim happens to be awake and screaming in pain while he digs them out of their skulls...oh well!
The wrestler ‘Kane’ plays a 7 foot ogre with bald head, bad dental work...
a really bad movie, but hey, perfect description nonetheless... a bad horror flick, a nightmare where people have their eyeballs pulled out and (liberals are albeit willfully) blinded by this freakish ogre, it’s a nightmare in more ways than one!
Schindler’s List
Invaders from Mars
Hitler’s Children
The Time Machine
Orphans of the Storm
Dr. Zhivago
The Manchurian Candidate
Night of the Living Dead
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Fifty-Foot Woman
Mammy
hidenberg
red dawn of course!
sorry, I second your nomination
Nightmare on Elm Street. Or is that Pennsylvania Avenue.
The original “Scanners” flick in which the main character can make other peoples heads explode.
Psycho
