There have been several posts on different threads where this topic has been discussed. Some FReepers say our U.S. military would not use armed force against citizens if order to do so; others say they would, going as far as saying that "the military will fight for whoever pays them to."
I thought why not just ask our FReepers who are currently on active duty what they think.
So, active duty military FReepers, here are the questions:
1. Would you obey an order from the current president to disarm U.S. citizens and force them into internment camps?
2. Do you believe that those in your chain of command would carry out such an order?
3. What do you believe is the percentage of personnel in your command that would refuse the order?
4. What do you believe is the percentage of personnel in the entire U.S. miltary that would refuse the order?
1. No, I would refuse to obey the order.
2. Using the chain of command of the last unit in which I served, no, I believe they would refuse to obey the order as well.
3. Again, using my last unit, I would be confident that 100% would refuse the order.
4. I am confident enough in our military personnel to say that at least 99% would refuse to obey.
As a veteran, I completely and totally agree with your post on this matter.
The only people I’ve ever run across that think otherwise never served as you and I did. Which isn’t surprising when you realize less than 5% of the living population of our nation has ever served in the military.

Thank you for your response and for your service, Badeye.
GO NAVY!
agree with your post, THANKS
All the more reason to create divisions of foreigners. They wont hesitate to shoot Americans and dump them in mass graves.
I’m glad our military is full of people like you!
I always respond to my pings, and it was my honor, no thanks necessary. I’ll just note I didn’t understand it was an ‘honor’ when I was 18.
I do now, at age 50. Actually for the past decade or so...but you undertand what I’m trying to say here.
If such a situation were to happen, it wouldn’t be in isolation. There would have to be something that the government could reasonably paint as a crisis. Like the “LA Riots” or the “Branch Davidian” standoff, only bigger. Then I could see... maybe... the military following that kind of an order.
Did armed active duty troops respond to Hurricane Katrina and before that, to Koresh compound at Waco as commanded by General Janet Reno?
Obama will bring in more Somalis and Muslims to shoot you if other Americans in uniform refuse.
From my military experience, I’d say about 90% would refuse, 4% are too dumb to understand why it’s unlawful, and 6% are either commies who would love to do it or would be too scared to put on the uniform.
What?
Did everybody forget?

Be sure to view the NG clip off to the right side.
If they pass a law banning guns then everyone with a gun will be a criminal.
This is true. Myself included.
And veterans won't hestitate to shoot back and leave them for graves registration or the medics.
It takes one soldier to care for a dead man, three to care for each wounded one.
That’s a pretty close assessment.
I’ve never served but I have faith in our soldiers to do the right thing and oppose.
Same here. I can honestly say that none of the units with whom I served in the Army would have followed an order to use force to disarm citizens and shuttle them to internment camps. The chain of command would have refused such orders.
