Last week, a clever citizen sleuth caught Belkin in the act of hiring people to post bogus five-star reviews for Belkin products on Amazon. And now, no sooner has the world stopped shaking its fist at Belkin than another smoking gun has emerged.

In short, the review by Swami Kumaresan, rating Carbonite 5 stars, read too much like a testimonial, he writes. It turned out that Swami Kumaresan is the Vice President of Marketing for Carbonite. His review gives no indication that he is employed by the company.

I had carbonite about two weeks ago and killed it from my desktop. Didn’t care for how it didn’t backup video files and such.
Wonder if Rush will stop advertising for them.
This is pretty normal for companies, I know Epinions.com had a major problem (probably still do) with ‘professional reviewers’ posing as regular consumers.
Auto backup is a great idea. Don't know if Carbonite is the right product.
I’ve actually been considering them, thanks for the heads-up.
I tried Mozy this week....had some problems with them too. Ugh
When they stop paying him to advertise for them. I thought it funny when he and Hannity picked up GM as a sponsor and had to tout GM's fuel efficient vehicles.
True, but he’s said that he does very careful reviews of the advertisers he puts on his show and turns down many despite the disappointment of his marketing staff.
I like customers reviews but some read like press releases and others like love letters.
I started Carbonite a few weeks ago. Love it.
The initial backup takes quite awhile if you have a lot of files (mine was 46+ gigs and took 3 days). After that, backups are much, much faster.
It backs up all new files as soon as they are saved or installed. All in the background and I never even notice.
I believe he would if the ads or advertisers were counter to his political message. He can afford to be choosy.
Oh, and most of the files are video and audio files. Backs them all up with no problem.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! WAY TO FUNNY!!!
Hmmm...Guess I’d better stop pimping books I sell there too, Eh? ;)
First hint? Don’t use your real name, LOL!
You want to see marketing in action? Check out Twitter. You should see the shameless pimping of product that goes on there. ;)
It won’t during the trial period. Picks those up once you pay for the first year.
Another shot at Limbaugh. This happens what, like forty times an hour? I can spot these planted reviews from a mile away (at least some of them, and there are A LOT. Soooooooooooooooo... Carbonite does it, and they advertise on what show? This isn’t a news story, it’s a warning to Limbaugh’s advertisers...Hey dude, advertise on Rush and we’ll kill your product and your company with bad news stories. Wonder if this was discussed with 0’s chief of staff when they got their morning marching orders.
“officially” it is for work stuff, but I have about 40 gig of iTunes music I don’t want to lose.
