Al Gore and Venus Envy
Fox News ^ | 1-29-2009 | Steven Milloy

Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday with yet another one of his infamous slide shows, Gore observed that the carbon dioxide (CO2) in Venus’ atmosphere supercharges the second-planet-from-the-sun’s greenhouse effect, resulting in surface temperatures of about 870 degrees Fahrenheit.

This guy seems to know a lot about Venus.
I wonder what’s going on, on Pluto, Al?

"Venus" envy. Meaning he wished he had a bigger Venus.

I was gonna make a joke about Uranus, but it just seemed a little predictable............Kinda like the weather in January in Washington D.C.

Al? You listening?

Everytime I think this guy has reached the lowest depth of stupidity, he proves me wrong by reaching lower. The CO2 in Venus’ atmosphere did not simply cause the temperatures to reach 870 degrees. There were a lot of factors, but basically it appears that Venus got locked in a feedback loop of sorts. Rising temperatures caused by the Sun and lack of sufficient atmospheric protection caused the rock in Venus’ crust to release CO2, exactly as we see on Earth. However, unlike Earth, which has a biosphere to compensate and regulate CO2, Venus had no easy way to deal with the increased CO2 until the solar heating subsided and the atmospheric CO2 was re-absorbed by the crust. Therefore it became a deadly cycle leading to greenhouse heating, more CO2 released, more greenhouse heating, etc.

The key difference is life! Without life on Earth, Earth could get locked in a cycle like Venus, and would be unable to support life. What does Al Gore think caused the CO2 on Venus in the first place? Venusians driving SUV’s?!?

Earth to Sun : 93 million miles
Venus to Sun: 67 million miles

Ya’ think that the SUN might be a factor Al?

Ugh Al, Venus is hot because it is closer to the Sun. Mercury is really hot.
Pluto is really cold, as it is further from that heat source, the Sun.

Al, please don’t touch the red-hot element on the stove

Al Gore states our atmosphere contains 400 parts per million of CO2

That’s 4 parts per 10,000
That’s 0.04 parts per 100

How is it that a scarce particle, widely distributed throughout out atmosphere, is holding in so much heat?

It doesn't. It is Al-baby talking out his A$$ that makes the difference.

THE YOUTHFUL PLANET VENUS

excerpt:

When spacecraft took careful measurements of the temperature emitted from Venus it became clear that Venus was extremely hot; its surface temperature was hot enough to melt lead! In order to circumvent Velikovsky’s prediction the scientific establishment turned to a runaway greenhouse effect theory to provide this high surface temperature. The scientists have claimed again and again that the great heat emitted from Venus comes not from below its surface but from its atmosphere via a runaway greenhouse effect.

If this is so then the thermal balance of Venus should reflect the scientific establishment’s runaway greenhouse concept by exhibiting thermal balance. The amount of light entering Venus’ atmosphere and converted to heat emitted should exhibit a relationship of equality from the cloud tops to the surface.

If Velikovsky’s concept is correct and the planet itself is the source of all, or nearly all of Venus’ heat, the amount of heat in Venus’ atmosphere derived from sunlight should not exhibit equality with the amount of heat emitted by the planet. If the planet is the source of the heat there should be more heat emitted at every level of the atmosphere than sunlight provides; the planet should exhibit thermal imbalance. And furthermore, as one measures this relationship between sunlight absorbed and heat emitted, thermal imbalance should increase the closer one comes to the Venusian heat source, its surface...
