Does anyone have the picture of the Obamas registering their girls into school? You know the one where Michele is wearing a skull cap?

I was telling a friend about it and said I would try and find it on the web. I can't!

To be fair, Mrs. Bush looked overwhelmed by her outfit. Too much gray, too much fabric, too loose.

I'm thinking Laura purposely chose her understated outfit so as not to compete with whatever Michelle was going to wear. It would be like her; she's such a gracious lady.

But I too, can't stand the open coats in a cool weather outfit If you need a coat, then there needs to be some way to close it without continually holding the front pieces together!

Alot of people feel the way you do,,,but I am not like the media hacks and don’t aspire to be. And Michelle is sort of a bystander anyway.

Oh, for the post #666, I would have expected your reply to be more evil... ;^)

But I'm glad - you be the good person so I can be the bad one... it evens out to zero.

When I was in my late teens I had the most beautiful black, wool Chesterfield “walking suit”. It was a masterfully tailored 3/4 length jacket and below the knee straight skirt, toasty warm and when paired with a silk stock tie blouse, red riding hat and black suede riding boots, made a very warm, very comfortable and extremely classic presentation. I felt special when I put it on.

No riding hat for Inauguration, obviously, but could also be paired with a pillbox or cloche and do just as well. Something like that would have been so over the top — especially if she had chosen a brilliant color.

Mrs. Bush started choosing matronly outfits that made here beautiful figure disappear. That's no way to highlight what beauty God gave her as a gift. She was the complete package — class, beauty AND disciplined.

I think before Michelle buys any more clothes, she ought to have her colors done to determine which ones look better on her. That 'lemongrass' frock she wore for the Inauguration just didn't seem to be a good color for her. When I lost a lot of weight between our second and third kids, I had mine done, and since then, know which colors will highlight my face and eyes. I have a little wallet of color chips I can take, when I go shopping. It's easy, until you have a couple of years when your colors are not what the fashionistas have decided they want to feature. Then you go with what you have, adding a top or two in your color. Unfortunately, I gained a lot of weight with kids # 3 and 4, and the twenty years since then, so I had to buy new clothes to fit my ever growing frame. Having the color chart helped with that, so I looked nice, even though I was a big gal. ;o)

I love 3/4 length coats! I had to buy a new one this year, because I'd lost a lot of weight since last winter, WooHoo! I didn't want to buy a real heavyweight one, since we're planning to move back South, and I found a nice camel colored one that is light enough, that I could even wear it on really cold days in MS next winter, if it's not too big for me then. I told my hubby that when I get down to my goal weight, I want a nice leather 3/4 length coat and some knee boots! Now, I'm no spring chicken, but I don't see any reason why a fifty-something woman can't wear that!

Absolutely! Go for it. You'll never wear it again any younger. ;-)

The hardest part for me at 60 is knowing I can't wear the heels I used to wear and hats (which I adore) look trite now. Wouldn't suffer the pain, even if I could balance which I can't due to Neuropathy (just diagnosed). I used to have the balance of a cat, and now — well, let's just say I'm learning to accept myself in this new condition of aging. Inside, I'm still young, lithe and supple. I still dance and sing, but I have to do it sitting down or standing now. ;-) The legs are still long and shapely, but the balance to strut the stuff is gone.

“***We will not see any such skit this weekend or ever on SNL....***

Yeah, but you made me laugh imagining it!

You ought to start a weekly thread entitled “This Week’s Not SNL Skit.”

Thank you for enjoying my post #598. I’ve heard that comedians say they can’t make fun of the Obama’s because there is nothing to poke fun at. Just thought I’d throw out some ideas. I guess the writers that are coming out of institutions of higher learning are limited in what they see as good material for comedy—it can only be against conservatives. I think your thread idea is a great one. We can give those writers some ideas in areas where they are lacking creativity.

Frankly, I never liked high heels. 2” is about the most I can stand, and then, not for any length of time. Heck, I fall off my sneakers, sometimes! My Daddy used to call me Slew-Foot Sue, ;o)

I never had that problem, being short and all.
But, still she should work on that. She would look 100% better if she carried herself better.

Well, I didn't say I was always the most graceful woman in the world. I fell over raised sidewalk sections, down steps and even managed to fall down the curved staircase at Maxim's in Geneve, Switzerland, break the heel off my shoe and walk through the lobby of the hotel and a diplomatic reception line in my bare feet rather than try to heave like Grandpa’ McCoy. What can I say?!? I'd still like to make a grand entrance someday, but it's looking less and less like it's in the cards. ;-) If you can manage to retain you dignity after going through a Carol Burnett prat fall, you've accomplished much.

I remember seeing the original skit (years ago!), and I remember laughing so hard I bent over. It was so clever and, of course, Carol Burnett was so funny in everything she did. This skit is one of the classics in TV comedy. I still laugh when I see it.

So, can we look forward to you starting one this weekend? When you do, put me on your ping list.

We’ve already got great material for this week: drapery “viewing outfit,” bedspread “ballgown,” teatowel “church dress.” :)
