I lived for a number of years not far from Chadds Ford and was an huge admirer of his work. I’d say save Nick Santoleri, Wyeth was my favorite artist from that area.

I was not aware he was still living.
Same here. Mr. Detra, a HS teacher of mine, would not be happy with me for not knowing!
My High School teacher was Bunny Austin. Mr. Spates loved Currier & Ives prints. Mary Lou Brubaker loved sculpting, found object art and modern art.
But Bunny Austin was absolutely enthralled with Andrew Wyeth!

Such a shame. Went to the museum and saw his home some years ago. Very private man. Loved his work. He is greatly admired by two family members who are watercolorists.
He was known to nip into the museum on occasion, incognito, and have a look around (so the story goes). RIP.

One of the astonishing things about actually seeing his paintings in real life is that they frequently, with regard to such things as shadows on snow, made you realize that you had been looking at things and not really seeing them.

A lovely painting called "Around the Corner." I've had this print hanging in my home for so many years. There's something about this work, and so many of his paintings, that evokes such a gentle look at life. He made the everyday extraordinary.

Yep. I know a good painting when I can “smell” what it would be like to be standing there.

Beautiful work, from my all time favorite, “modern” artist.
Thank you.
Godspeed Andrew.

Eye-opening post of the day. What an amazing, accurate and humbling realization.
I have to work on that.
Thank you,

Sad to hear about him passing.
If it wasn’t for mentions of Wyeth in the Peanuts comic strips, I would have no idea who he was. Charles Schultz must have liked his work. Just those references had me take a look at his paintings when I was younger.
