Today was a long, sad day for me. Last night, my little yorkie, Lindy, lost the use of her right leg. This morning, she lost the use of her left leg. Now, she cannot walk at all. She tries to stand up, and her little bottom won’t respond.
I took her to the vet who told me there is nothing they can do. Her knee caps are positioned in the center of her legs, instead in front.
He told me surgery could possibly help, but without a rigorous physical therapy after surgery, they would probably permanently lock up.
We discussed a ‘home-made’ splint on each leg, and even a little ‘wagon’ with wheels.
But, all in all - there is nothing they can do for a twelve year old little precious yorkie.
My heart is so sad.

Have you included supplemental chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine in her diet? They usually work well at healing general wear in the joints. Also salmon oil relieves the inflammation that leads to the pain and lethargy in older dogs.

Oh, yorkie, I am so, so sorry. I know that is such a sad thing to see her that way. If there is any consolation at all, our Dutchess (one of my sweet "hostess sistahs" from the Finest threads) has a sweet little dog a little older than your Lindy, who lost the use of his legs a few months ago, and was fitted with a 'wagon' - dutchess said he scoots around all over the place.
I really am so sorry for the sad news. We all know we will face things like this with our precious pets at some time, but it doesn't make it a bit easier when the time comes. I get tears in my eyes every time I hear something like this from my friends.
To: JustAmy
Thank you so much, Amy. You are always so supportive. :)
To: The Mayor
Well, thank you for the thank you. :) Stay warm!

Okay, I'll have to download Lacrymosa then, you two. Thanks! Oh, I must post another "music quote" - not that it refers to Mozart.....but close enough I guess. LOL

back and instead of bleeding he sings.

I am sorry to hear this! I have a friend in NC who had this problem with her pup & the pup for several years did great with the help of “mom” along the way. The pup dragged itself around marine style & still had a lot of love & life. Dont give up. Fortunately Yorkies are small & easy to carry!
My friend continued hikes with all dogs- carried special pup in one of the kids chest packs. On outings now & then would put pup down to smell & play. It rolled around & had fun with other dogs. This all happened before I had dogs & now I more fully get “the big picture” which I did NOT prior
We people fall apart physically & have to change the way we do things also

Pollen has dropped a lot..We had a bit of drizzle..Have some icicles this morning..Though we really need rain I am so happy it did not turn into an ice storm..I see no limbs hanging down...just a few frozen droplets.
It’s 28 but will warm up to 50..
I am feeling better. I have finally done something besides feed myself and the kitties..I got my bed changed and the kitchen cleaned up.
Enjoying all the funny posts!

I’d love to visit New Zealand and Australia, too, Dolly.
I enjoy finding a new pretty view from that part of the world.
We are back to winter here but nothing like you have.
