...see if your dog can't be trained to skin and gut the deer. We have ours trained to help skin, still working on the gutting part. They have trouble with that whole holding the knife thing.

He's a Border Collie not a Golden Retriever for crying out loud.
Is his name McCoy? "Dammit Eagle I'm a collie not a retriever".

Take some deer meat (venison) and thread it though some sting and tie it to his collar. Let it rot on the dog - the horrible smell should keep him away from deer in the future. ( This usually works better with farm dogs - I’m not sure how comfortable you would be with rotting deer meat...)

You’re absolutely right. The dog becomes a “Legal target” if it’s running deer.

Really? I have clocked white tail at 40 MPH. Buck Mulies will turn and kill the dog unless there is more than one dog. A fast Greyhound is 42mph.

A border collie taking a deer? Extremely unlikely. One possibility not considered is that the border collie took down a 'possum, and the op mistook it for a deer.

Deers are just rats with antlers. Turn your dog loose on them.
To: Doomonyou
Your dogs appear to be a Beagle and some sort of Beagle cross.
Very smart dogs. As for that holding the kife thing, it's hard to see from the picture but you didn't have their dew claws removed by any chance did you? The dew claws are basically their thumbs so, yeah, if you had them removed I highly doubt they will ever be able to hold a knife with any sort of proficiency.

Also, some bow hunters "lose" the deer after hitting it - and the deer dies a few miles from the "kill". Your dog might have wandered across a wounded animal.

A deer did that to our car, too. Dang, that was scary. And then he just ran off.

We tried the water balloon trick on Grandpa's dog(s)...who liked to chase cars.
Conclusion: Some dogs just don't learn!!

Is that some sort of reference to an 80s movie?

The Retriever will bring it home Then the Border Collie would cut it up and wrap it and stick it in the freezer.
