"Athenia? Sparta? Lesbo?" Those are all in the past. Fairhome is in the distant future, about 200 light-years away. It's a nice little world, a moon of a giant planet.
Their problems started with the difficulties the crew and passengers encountered on the way there.
It's kind of a long story ...

Yup. The others I’m familiar with but the dan bau is relatively new to me. First heard and identified it on a local music radio program, “The Old Country,” a couple of months ago.

One website called it a single-string zither.

It appears to be sounded by plucking the string, which ends on a resonator on the upright arm. Pitch is obviously set by pulling on the arm to change string tension.
I've heard it, or something very like it, in traditional Chinese music.

So that’s a Zither you’d rather do?

I could not tell from the pictures I found. I guess that it doesn't use the diatonic scale.

Now listening to a different zither, the Japanese koto. My first intro to this was several years ago, with the Korean koto.

I've never seen it played standing, though. Usually it, and the player, are on the floor.
