Australians are getting a big hello from the heavens as Venus, Jupiter and a waxing crescent moon combine to create a celestial smiley face.
The best time to see the friendly phenomenon is about 20 to 30 minutes after sunset, report the News Corporation's Australian newspapers.

we saw this last night, but the moon was at the top and the planets were off to an angle left and below the moon...
So not only does water go down the drain backwards downunder, but they see :( as :) (and vice versa).
Ouch! I imagine the only pic you got was a moon.........
I see an airplane, but I don’t see a smile.
By the latter part of December Mercury should be visible in the evening sky. On the 29th, Mercury and Jupiter will be close together near the two-day-old crescent moon. Mercury passes Jupiter on the 31st. By then Venus will be quite a distance from Jupiter--the moon will pass Venus on the 31st, and Venus will be setting almost two hours after Jupiter.
No. Take a look at the sky now, if you can. The moon is shifting position.
Take it up with Fox News, I was only quoting their website.
(:
I looked around 6:30pm CST and say an upside down frowny face.
Thanks. The cloud cover was fairly heavy in the evening last night, so it was mostly not visible. But every so often the three of them were visible at the same time, and very bright. Due to the cloud cover and Broward County’s ambient light, that was about all I could see. Very impressive.
It was a frowny face in Texas last night I told Mrs. Biased in Japan and Australia it was a smiley face.
