I’m sorry too Amy. I’ll try to do better, but you know how busy I get around Christmas. So many things demanding my attention. I hope that all will have an easy time of Christmas preparation.

Rather like the hero in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", I'm running out of time.
I'd better get this in right now.
.
Happy Birthday, Marissa!
This year, as it was back then,
The seventh on Sunday comes around again.
A peaceful day, when out of the blue,
A surprise attack on the ready few.
I mention this because you are soon to learn,
A surprise is in store for you, in your turn.
Well, it's no big deal, and I spent not a dime,
But there's something coming, it's a matter of time.
With another birthday tucked under your belt,
You'll be noticing stuff that you hadn't felt.
As some of your toys will be set aside,
And you'll look around more when you take a ride.
You're growing up, kid, and it happens fast,
It seems half of your childhood has already passed.
So I'm spending some time and some thought on you,
And I'll make a suggestion as to what you can do.
For your birthday wish, give it lots of thought,
And don't give a care for what others have brought.
The love that surrounds you may flicker its flame,
But the warmth and the glow will remain the same.
Just relax and enjoy this bright day and all days,
While you just feel the love that surrounds you always,
And before you grow up and think only of boys,
Try to make sure Aunt Amy remembers your toys.

Me too MEG. We wear those years with pride and wisdom, don’t we? Pride that we have survived in spite of.....and wisdom from all the surviving. Hugs.

Oh Bob that is wonderful. It brought tears to my eyes.
Just relax and enjoy this bright day and all days,
While you just feel the love that surrounds you always,
And before you grow up and think only of boys,
Try to make sure Aunt Amy remembers your toys.
Now as she listens to music and talks about this boy and that boy, I realize that she is growing up fast ...... telephone calls and discussions about makeup. Where have the years gone? She is not the little girl you met 4 years ago, she is having a difficult time deciding whether to be a young lady or a child.
She asks when she can have a cell phone ... I tell her when she is 16. She reminds me that last year I told her she could have one when she is 12.
BTW .... Aunt Amy remembered toys. :)
Thank you again for these personal poems that you've written for her.

Bob, there is something in that poem that reminds me of the Scripture in Zechariah 13:9. (God speaking)"I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them. I will say, they are my people, and they will say, the Lord is my God."
This statement does not make sense unless you know how silver is refined. The refiner sits by the fire through the whole process to make sure that the temperature is just right. Too hot and the silver is ruined, too cool and it won't refine. The fire has to be exact for silver to refine. That is what God does with us. When we are going through the fire, God is sitting right there with us the whole time, until we become like the limb that is consumed yet keeps its form which gives off a glow that warms.

For sure they grow up fast, Amy, and we grow old fast. Time flies.
I'm off to bed. Late again as usual. God bless and give Missy a hug for me.
