I display things to please me..I hope others enjoy whan they visit..I live here and need to please my eye..stir a memory..feel at home. I have many shelves to fill..with built in bookcasea on either side of the fireplace and large built in china cabinet buffet on the other side of the LR/DR..I have used old and new together. Scattered around are books.. and things from my family,gifts and a few thinga I have collected..I have one tiny doll plate and one tiny glass cup from my mother.... No one but me probably ever notices...but it pleases me they are there.

I only display representative pieces of my china and mother's, serving pieces and some decorative items..but I put out a lot of crystal in my cabinet because it looks pretty..With the new dishwashers, I can put most in the dishwasher now..My mother's very thin iridescent set went in with no detergent. First time I haven't hand washed it.
I have family cut glass pieces I love ..and they must sparkle at Christmas! I display my pottery serving pieces when it isn't Christmas..It doesn't go with red.
My sterling tablewear is kept in plastic ziplocks in an air tight container..no polishing needed..I haven't displayed silver for decades!
I washed all my dessert plates and white china..covered them carefully and put them back up under the buffet..Ready when and if needed.
I just looked on top of the refrigerator..gag.LOL I will store my pottery serving pieces there..but only after a major scrub!
I need to wash all my fan light glass fixtures and then I am through except for decorating and the usual. “The usual” is less satisfying than major cleanups...and never lasts long.

Here I am..starving for dessert..deep into Christmas cleanup and you have to go and make it worse.
I don’t make cookies because they would disappear into my mouth by the dozens, too!

My dad refinished some of my grandmother’s things..He had a furniture store and his father had a lumber yard before him ..He was always working with his hands..He loved to..
I know New England has really wonderful antiques.

You are so blessed to have your mother’s china, and elegant pieces to display. My parents used melmac (and glazed pottery for special occasions.) None of those would look right behind glass. ;-)

School buses were delayed 2 hours this morning. School started at 9:00 but students are not late if they get there by 10:00. We took Marissa about 9:30 because the fog had lifted enough to drive safely.

We spent time before school working on her homework for Speech Therapy. It is not due until next Tuesday but it was nice to get it finished early.

A Christmas Day birthday would be the worst birthday ever! On Christmas morning, tell your BIL that Amy’s Place wishes him the merriest, happiest birthday ever.

I do cook, a lot. #2 son has no idea about “life in the real world”, where hamburger helper is considered haute cuisene.
Hubby’s jsut as bad—I told him to ask his buddies at work how many of their wives cook every night/how many times a week do they eat out. Grin

Down By The Salley Gardens

None of those would look right behind glass.

Well, those words didn't come out right!

If I had that melmac that we used when I was a child, I would proudly display it - not behind glass, but perhaps on a plate stand with a nice plant, on a sweet table. I have many good memories of childhood dinners, (and the trouble my brothers and I got into when our parents left the table).

My mother had melmac! NOTHING was acquired when I was a child..the depths of the Depression years..Some of her things were acquired in later years..but her china and crystal were wedding gifts.
I do feel blessed to have what I have of my family’s and that my children appreciate them, too. I have some mended pieces that I display because I grew up seeing them.
My grandmother’s hobnail glass compote is displayed and is my cranberry sauce dish..Time has clouded the glass but I recall it and treasure it.

The Hosting of the Sidhe
