Yorkie, My brother and his wife just closed their antique shop about a year ago. They dreaded letting it go very much and had a terrific business. They had a beautiful shop. It was called Charles and Di Antiques. And he told everyone that he and his wife had those names before “the Charles and Diana Era”. But it sure was a catchy name at the time he opened his shop in Columbus.

I have some pieces passed down....an old, old telephone on my wall in the den. Several clocks from my husband’s grandmother. My husband and I used to go antiquing with another couple. They were into antiques very heavy. We would take week-end trips looking at all antique shops we could find. I bought a few small things. There for a while I was very interested in wall pockets and the women’s hands collectables.

I do have an old Victrola (cabinet style for a place for your records.) And have a huge collection of records, some very, very old. The oldest son wants the Victrola and I told him he could get it now but he just hasn’t gotten around to it yet. Its late tonight and I just haven’t had much time to join in the conversation. Have very loaded days from now on. Things may slow down the week before Christmas if I complete my cleaning and decorating. Then I will be planning and doing for the Christmas Eve Party. Whewwww! My back has hurt bad tonight....had a rough day.

What fun to go antiquing..and to have a brother in the business...Love the name!
Jaycee, my back is yelling, too..I finished washing every last piece of china and crystal..washed out the shelves and cleaned the woodwork and glass in my builtin china cabinet..I have the decorations out but ran out of steam..I hate climbing up on the buffet to wash the the shelves near the ceiling..I can reach what’s in it from a step stool..I think this may be the last scrubbing the top shelves will get!
;o)

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

December 5, 2008
Seeing Jesus
He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. —Isaiah 53:2

When I was young, I thought I knew exactly what Jesus looked like. After all, I saw Him every day whenever I looked at some pictures in my bedroom. One showed Jesus knocking at a door and the other depicted Him as a Shepherd with His sheep.

What I didn’t know was that a mere decade before I was born, those pictures of Jesus didn’t exist. Warner Sallman painted the well-known “Head of Christ” and other portraits of Jesus in the 1940s. Those images were just one man’s idea of what Jesus might have looked like.

The Bible never gives a physical description of Jesus. Even the men who saw Him every day didn’t tell us what He looked like. In fact, the only clue we have is a passage in Isaiah that says: “There is no beauty that we should desire Him” (53:2). It seems that Jesus’ human form was deliberately de-emphasized. He looked like an ordinary man. People weren’t drawn to Him because of a regal appearance but because of what He said and did and because of the message of love He came to give (John 3:16).

But the next time Jesus comes to earth, it will be different. When our Savior returns, we will recognize Him as the sovereign King of kings and Lord of lords! (1 Tim. 6:14-15).

The more I see His beauty,
The more I know His grace,
The more I long, unhindered,
To gaze upon His face. —Anon.

To see Jesus will be heaven’s greatest joy.

Meg, you reminded me of ‘me when I’m climbing to do my hutch.’ The top is hard to reach and we must be very careful to not fall. I can use a stool to reach so far, but I get my aluminum ladder to get the top. The top doesn’t get it as often as the other shelves, but it feels good when its finished. Goodness, we wouldn’t want Santa Claus to see the dirt on top of the hutch, would we? LOL~~~

Meg, a couple of years ago, I put away the china and crystal and ‘silver tea and coffee servers’ and other silver things because it kept me too busy keeping clean. Cleaning all that silver (hate when its so tarnished) was a big,big job and washing the china and crystal. I decided there was a better way so now I have just some pretty things that I love on display in the hutch and it is so much easier for me.

When my mother died, I kept her china cabinet and since I have a large living room, I have it up there and her pretty things inside. It is large and has a glass front and she had a lot of ‘good crystal things.’ I also have her china and its white with silver trim and I use that sometimes. Its enclosed in the bottom part of the hutch. In other words, I have too much stuff~~~LOL~~And this post is too long!

I have been enjoying reading your conversation. I come from a long family history of antiquer’s (sp?).

My Grandfather was an Auctioneer and when he died his two son’s took it over, my Uncles Jack and Dick, Hilditch Brothers Auctioneers in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

I wish I had more antiques, we used to travel around to small town auctions, buy painted antiques, I would refinish them and re sell them. I miss it and would LOVE to be doing that again.

Of course the best place to find and buy antiques is New England.

Punished For Temptations Never Taken

In the silent prison of the mind
in the deepest cell of the soul
lurks a prisoner locked away
Never to see the light of day
never to be free, or to be whole
starved for that which is kind

The sentence,silence so profound
in which echoes the past so clear
to haunt the waking mind and heart
For that too is of justice a part
a price to be paid so very dear
to an eternity,chained and bound

Weep not for them bound within
for by their hand, the key was turned
and the sentence imposed to shut away
The world’s too open and to bold I say
and so they reject the reality spurned
too many chances, the cardinal sin

Good morning, Polly. Happy Friday.

Marissa will be 9 on Sunday. Our son will be 46 in January. Hubby and I both have birthdays in January. A December 22nd birthday would be worse than early December and January. My poor baby brother’s birthday is December 27th.

Tonight we attend our Support the Troops Rally. Been looking forward to it but the fog really socked us in this morning. Hope it doesn’t come in early tonight. If it does, Marissa, FRiendAnn and I will skip dinner.

Have a beautiful Friday and a great weekend.

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I decided years ago, that my hutch would be for display of things that I liked to look at. Things that made me smile. So, I have it filled with primitive antiques. An old high-top ladie’s boot from the 1800’s, filled with dried roses, a well loved, one hundred year old teddy bear, surrounded with old wooden alphabet blocks, a child’s porcelain tea set from the turn of the century, my grandma’s rolling pin, a child’s book from 1890, etc.

I know it sounds odd, but then, maybe I’m odd. (Smile)

Cookie in both hands! Snort! Jaycee, you are my kind of woman!

#2 son’s current girlfriend has been baking up a storm—Sometimes I think we need to get rid of him and keep her!
She’s made choc chip cookies, peanutbutter balls, coconut balls, sugared pecans, and she’s even cooked supper a couple of times. Only another woman can appreciate how nice it is to come home and supper’s already on the table!

Russ, I will tell you one thing, if you could get into that business, and study hard, you can sure make some money. My brother had already had a career with S.H. Kress, yes, the five and ten cent store. When he graduated college, he started with them at the bottom, even though he had the education.

He worked hard and made it right up the ladder over the years to District Manager and Regional Manager. His goal was to be President of the company, I'm serious. After 25 years, he asked not to be transferred again as he needed to plant some roots. Well, the company wouldn't listen because they knew no matter where they sent him, he could take a run down Kress store and put it on top again.

He became so upset with Kress's that he retired early and did several other jobs that were never satisfying. He started (with his wife) going to flea markets, garage sales, auctions, etc. and bought many books to study from and became very educated about antiques. He already had his business degree. They then, started a small business and did so well, they had to have a much larger place so they bought a great place on a very busy parkway/highway.

My brother really became an expert, attended auctions, sometimes would purchase a whole estate and it amazed me that his second career was greater than his first. I will say that they made a lot of money and they were happy doing what they were doing. But it came time for both of them to retire and they sold the business and they are very happy and have a great retirement. His wife is still selling on Ebay. Sounds easy in writing, but they sacrificed and struggled a year or two before things really went through the ceiling. One can start small. study hard, and be patient and if you do all that, with some luck, you can succeed. And if I don't get busy, Santa won't come to my house~~~LOL~~~
