Conor, I wonder what to make of this, as I recall that Yeats was hopelessly in love with Maud Gonne for a very long time...

He was, but I can't recall if this is one of the poems about her or not - I'll try to research it.

I had a bad, dragged out cold for 2weeks + 2days, and have now enjoyed 4 days of feeling better. It just takes awhile, and I hope this is what you have. I almost went for antibiotics also, but glad I didn’t as they have their own side effects and can weaken the immune system. Jmho.

I Love This Season

Soft the snow settles
like a dream upon this old land
A monochromatic robe
to grace these hills to hand

Silence settles about so still
a Cathedral hush to Winter’s reign
as flakes fall in humble homage
in a blanket of white soft lain

The pond, frozen smooth at last
And children play upon it in glee
Swift on skates that gleam
laugher makes doldrums flee

The soft crush of snow under foot
a companion this night as we walk
Looking in windows as we pass
And sharing dreams as we talk

The smell of hot cider wafts our way
we turn to find the way there
A welcome and a mug makes all right
as we’re made welcome most fair

The crackle of the logs
The flash of the flames so bright
Sign a song of gentle joy
And out hearts are set to right

We don’t have Phoebes here ..I know I would enjoy them..I am really enjoying the birds during this cold weather..I had to bring in the frozen bird bath saucer to thaw and put out another.
I just filled the feeder and put more seed out..The cardinals love to feed when it is dusk.
I would not go out in the cold for anything but birds and critters..LOL

Johnn, I love this season too and I love your poem. Your writing lets us see, feel, smell all the things mentioned. Now I am trying to check the differences in your rough draft and the second copy! You could've fooled me!

Wouldn’t it be nice if we all could sit together and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate, (plus candy!)

I don't believe we have the phoebes here either, Meg. I looked them up and there are several kinds. Isn't that right. I found one called an Eastern Phoebe. This is the one I found. Isn't it cute? If I were to see one of them here it would thrill me to death.

Eastern Phoebes are quite hardy for a bird that feeds extensively on flying insects, and are regularly found throughout the southern United States and Mexico in winter. To survive cold spells in winter, they supplement their diet with fruits such as sumac, poison ivy, bayberry, and holly. Over 20% of their winter diet can be comprised of fruit, compared to less than 5% in spring and summer.
