1. Alabama 2. Oklahoma 3. Texas 4. Florida 5. USC 6. Utah 7. Texas Tech 8. Penn State 9. Boise State 10. Ohio State
Austin liberals can get annoying, fortunately there's more to do here than hang out at Sonic and get drunk in the HEB parking lot.
Technically:
Tech, Texas, and OU have ALL won their Division.. They are "Co-Champions of the Southern Division". They will ALL get a nice trophy. The tie-breaker is just to determine which of the three gets to advance to the Big 12 Conference Championship game.. because, only ONE can...
Best of luck to Tech. Looking forward to seeing you in Austin next year.
Cavanal Mountain (1,999 feet) near Poteau is the one you’re thinking of.
Indeed, it does mean something.... But:
It was AT the opponent's home field,
On the last play of the game
In a game where Texas recovered from a 20-0 deficit,
On a freakish 30 yard catch, and run that came one play after a gift interception was dropped...
I know I'm biased.. but, I don't see how that loss compares to a TEN POINT loss on a neutral field in the middle of the season.
If the decision had to be between Texas and OU, I don't see how THEIR GAME would not be the deciding factor.
In the old Southwest Conference, in a 3-way tie.. the tie-breaker for the Cotton Bowl was, the Team that hadn't been there in the longest time. Personally, I like that method FAR BETTER!
I have also seen both teasm play...and I believe this team is as good, if not better. Time will tell. We’ll see who they get in the bowl and how well they do.
Classy, but what would I expect.
Thanks - I did see the article on the Tech website showing the trophy. So that is a first for us -
Ok I have to laugh at that...
Appearances can sometimes be deceiving... Alabama is a solid football team, and should not be over-looked.
If they play, I absolutely believe that Bama would run the ball down OU's throat.
The Sooners can't stop a running team. And, Bama's defense would put some hurtin on the Sooners fancy offense.
The other half of the Texas players leave early to go Pro, and make more money than ALL of the Tech player-graduates combined! :-)
As I was saying, the right choice was made, and Oklahoma definitely deserves the spot. In fact, I say we give OK the NC trophy right now. :o)
I’m gonna need to see more evidence
Oh to be a hyphen...........
No, they are all gangstas and are serving hard time down in Huntsville.
Not freakish as you say. Crabtree is a man amongst boys.
You said “This is a disgrace”
I am confused, do you mean that Texas only beat OSU at Texas by 4 points or that OU only beat OSU at OSU by 20?
I am biased as well, but if the situation were reversed, and Oklahoma was on the outside looking in, I’d hate it, but I’d be okay with it. I wouldn’t be flashing little signs on TV showing the score of one game or having my head coach completely disregarding the game they lost when talking about the team they beat. Texas, OU, and Tech all knew what the tiebreakers were. By losing 1 game, the three put themselves into the situation.
I’m pretty sure the tiebreaker system will be changed before next season. But to hear some FReepers wanting the rules changed during the season (see: Toricelli) was kind of disheartening.
Someone else mentioned point differential among common opponents should have been a tiebreaker. That one makes sense to me. I’m not a big fan of the “one-who-hasn’t-been-there-the-longest” system (I think the Big 10 uses that).
