Donovan McNabb's team tied the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday, an outcome which came as a complete surprise to the 10-year NFL veteran:
What did ... I mean ... how can ... wow. That's it, wow. He didn't know that games could end in a tie. You know who knows that games can end in ties? Everyone. Even Tony Siragusa knows that.

Cincinnati has played the NFC East tough, and they are arguably the toughest division in the NFL.
“Withdraws and gives the game to other team”.......don’t you think that might harmful to a coaches longevity with his team?
It’s started. People were fuming on Philly sports talkradio this morning.
The NCAA format blows chunks. It’s baseball in pads. Football isn’t about turns, it’s about making your shot. Either team can score on any play in football, it’s a little harder for the defense but they can do it (reference the Bears, they won two in a row with OT INTs returned for TDs). that OT format is one of the biggest reasons I hate college football, it’s so stupid it hurts.
The only thing I don’t like about college is that a team that wins in overtime gets the same credit than if they’d won in regulation.
The two major unbeatens, Bama and Texas Tech, both have overtime wins, so they really should have a blemish on their record. And although last year’s champion, LSU had two losses, both losses were overtime losses. So under the old system, they would have been unbeaten.
For whatever odd reasons, I'm actually a Bungles fan.
Yes ... there have been some close games ... and blowouts by Titans and Texans ... but the bottom line is
1-8-1
Iggles didn't deserve a win, and I'm glad the rules allow for the "sister-kissing tie" that will sit on their record.
If Philly doesn’t want McNabb, my Lions could use him.
Why? There’s no point for people in the pros to be playing for too long in a non-playoff game; the longer you play, the more tired you are, the more likely it is you get injured. It’s only happened 17 times since the sudden death rule was introduced, and only twice in the last six years years.
Heck, the New York Giants went 10-5-1 in 1997.
Were it a playoff game, where a winner MUST be decided, the game will be in play until someone scores. The longest a playoff game has gone on in that fashion has been double overtime.
Maybe those Black Panthers who showed up at the polling places in Philthy will march on Iggles HQ.
If Carson Palmer was healthy, it could have been a different story. Cincinnati is probably the best 1-8-1 team, I’ve ever seen. ;)
They might not need to fire McNabb but the do need to fire Reid. He’s a terrible GM (notice how their depth chart hasn’t had the depth of a puddle since he took over), and his hatred of the run game makes the team one dimensional, on both sides of the ball really the defense is at least as “stop the pass whacky” as the offense is pass whacky. If McNabb actually had a running game that would get more than 20 plays a game and receivers that deserve to be starters he’d probably e a much better QB, and his complete lack of both is entirely because of Reid.
It's also silly.
I see no reason why it's "unfair" to expect the special teams and defense of the kicking team in overtime to hold off the receiving team.
Yea, I almost feel out of my chair over that one.
The tradeoff is that usually if the team kicking off in OT can hold the other team to a “three and out”, they should get the ball in great field position.
So, with McNabb, the Lions would be, what, 0-9-1? Big improvement!
So why not make the games 15 or 20 minutes long? This way even less players will be injured. :)
A tie, and an 11-10 final on the same day.
I didn’t know baseball could end in a tie till it happened in the all star game some years back.
So far no ties in NASCAR.
If the game can end in a tie after overtime, why not at the end of the 4th quarter? Either end it there, or play the whole 15 minute overtime for a final score.
Do you have a high quality big running back and a big ass defensive end with speed that you'd like to give up.
