Several top GOP Senators announce their opposition to an auto industry bailout.

Despite calmer weather today in s. California, more residents are evacuated.

Nappy, as we not so affectionately call her here in Arizona, is NO big fan of securing the border! Here's what was written about her on The Corner blog today...

Napolitano Thoughts [Mark Krikorian]

I can see why Obama would ask Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to head Homeland Security — she's about as close as any Democrat governor can get to appearing hawkish on illegal immigration. Of course, there's little substance to that appearance — yes, she was for using National Guard in support roles on the border and declared a bogus "state of emergency" on the border in 2005 mainly for the news coverage, but she's also against fencing on the border, vetoed a slew of bills intended to bring about attrition of the illegal population, including one that would have made illegal immigration a violation of the state's trespassing law, and only signed Arizona's tough employer-sanctions law because she feared voters would pass an even tougher one by referendum if she didn't.

The interesting political question is why she'd take this job. She's been considering running for McCain's seat in 2010 or Kyl's in 2012 — I can't see how she could go to Washington and start running for Senate in less than two years, so maybe she has 2012 in mind instead. But even so, as DHS secretary, she is now going to be answerable for every illegal alien crossing the border and every snafu at ICE or USCIS — like the revelations from Houston that immigration authorities allowed back into the community violent criminals who admitted they were illegal aliens.

DJIA closes at 7552.29--for reference, the lowest point in the Bush Administration for the Dow is currently 7331.42, recorded on October 8, 2002.

10/8/02 We're about to have a "lost decade". (This will not be good for political regeneration of the party, btw.)

[S&P 500 had lowest close today since 1997.]

Not good. Not good at all.

After 30 years of work, Greg was thinking of retiring next year. Now? Who knows?

From the years of reading on my online dog lists, animals purchased at pet stores of any kind are mill dogs. They are oh-so cute and fluffy, and their dear parents live appalling lives.

Same COULD be true of pets purchased through local newspapers. They all deny it, but it's often true.

That said, I purchased a Maltese for my Mom through the local paper. I visited the seller's home, saw the parents, who lived in a lovely home, and satisfied myself that this was not the case before buying. Before breeding, the parents should be thoroughly tested - hips/eyes/heart - so as not to pass along bad genes.

Did you know that if a pet is purchased through a reputable breeder, it could cost less than a puppy mill dog at a pet store?

psst...and not all breeders are reputable.

I wish I knew then what I know now when I bought my first dog.

I saw my Dr, the day after the surgery, I am seeing 20/25 in the right eye. I have slight pressure in the eye.

I have to behave myself. No bending over, limited to lifting 10 pounds, and wearing the eye patch when sleeping. Right, for got, the eye drops four different drops, four times a day. However this is just for ten days. Small price to be able to see again.

I'll have the left eye done as soon possible. I mention it to the Doc. That, the next surgery would be around Christmas. He told me it would be sooner. He's going on leave (vacation) for Christmas.

What is so cool about this surgery, is the colors. I mean the colors really POP. This is the best time of the year with Christmas coming. So, I'll be able really enjoy the Colors of Christmas. Can't ask for a better present.

Sorry for wasted bandwith (sp?).

JP

A Freeper’s words are never wasted, JP!

I have a girlfriend who had the same surgery, and she’d find the eye patch across the room in the morning. Ha.
She was very faithful with the drops and had the second surgery two weeks after the first. She can’t believe the colors she’s seeing.
You have a good pair of sunglasses...... yes?
