Best online bulk ammo sales?

Posted on 11/15/2008 7:14:07 PM PST by roostercogburn

Looking for the best place to buy bulk ammo from. Obviously want best price, but would like experienced buyers to recommend which to possibly stay away from due to poor quality. Years back bought bulk at a gunshow and had all kinds of problems. These were .357 SIG and 9mm rounds.

Also several hundred rounds of .40 even though I sold my glock about 3 years ago.

Darn, I hate when that happens. No choice but to go out and buy a new one. ;~)

Anything’s possible but I’ve been buying my ammo from WM for 15 years and never had a mis-fire.

357, 38, 35, 9mm, 22LR.

Are you sure about CA banning mail order ammo sales?

Just checked Google and didn't see that. They require proof of age, but that's it as far as I can tell.

Depends on what you are looking for. I prefer Blazer Brass. You can get it at both these places in 45's only one, I think, in 9's. If you can get any, Walmart is usually the best place local....but I realize many are sold out. Just checked... both these places our currently out of stock on 9mm Blazer Brass. They have great prices though...so you might keep checking back. GOod luck...ammo is hard to find. I have had problems with monarch (others don't) and have heard bad things about Wolf. I also use WInchester.

good stuff, better than PMC, just under Remington. I have ran about 500 rounds of that thru my first AR-15 before I moved down the price scale.

The Eastman Show is this weekend (Atlanta Motor Speedway?).....

Gerogia Arms makes good quality ammo at reasonable prices and they always have a booth there.....

I’ve never had a problem with their products. They also ship....

Many times closer is best due to freight cost... ammo is heavy.

I bought a box of Remington .45 ACP on sale at Big 5 today for $20.99. They also carry UMC ammo which is made by Remington. Usually UMC is a little cheaper.

“I have an M-1 Garand I have never fired.”

If you are a male poster and have never fired an M1, it is like having a subscription to Penthouse and never looking at the magazine! In this case, however, you have no idea what you are missing.

Recommend buying M1 food bulk from Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Don't JUST take our word for it. Do your own research. Then go to a range and shoot at some targets with your shotgun. In a crisis the target practice could be more valuable than what load you have as properly placed any load is likely to eliminate your problem.

That said:

If you do go to the range you'll see that at home defense ranges you don't get that much spread in the pattern so accuracy is still an issue. You'll probably be surprised how much you can miss a target by at 20 feet.

Our local indoor range only allows their ammo - 00 light loads. So if you live in the Bay Area what you will learn is how your gun handles, how shot spreads at various ranges and what you can hit with it in a calm will lighted place.

Recognize that given that shot spread will not save you from bad marksmanship the real benefit of a shotgun over a handgun for home defense is that it is much more likely to take down a bad person with one shot.

For apartment and condo dwellers penetration is an issue. If you care whether or not you may kill the guy next door, slugs may not be a good choice.

By the same token, beware of "Cheney Effect". For many years birdshot loads where touted for home defense. The problem is, they loose energy fast and just don't penetrate. If the person who wants to do you harm is down the hall and across the living room you may not get the desired effect. I've played around experimented and found that, when fired 10 feet from the wall, a 23/4" #2 load will not penetrate two 5/8" sheets of sheet rock and four inches of fiberglass bat insulation with enough energy to embed pellets in a piece of 3/4" plywood placed about three feet behind the target. 00 did. And 00 3" mag loads with 15 pellets would also blow away a 2x4 stud. I didn't have any single 0 buckshot or BB so I don't know what the effects would be. (This is also a fun way to demolish an old house.) The problem is finding 23/4"" #2 goose shot loads.

I strongly recommend doing your own research, practicing and experimenting with different loads under different conditions. I don't think there is a perfect solution for every situation.

Shipping via UPS is free.

Given their prices compared to others, it’s probably more accurate to say that shipping is “included,” not “free.”

In the case of concealed carry or home defense, make sure you load only premium factory ammo. Make sure it functions perfectly, or try another manufacturer. People have been sued by a surviving assailant, claiming that the home-made reloads were designed to cause extra suffering, etc. Worst case, you don't want the police ballistics expert to testify that they recovered IMI brass and Gold Dot bullets.

On the other hand, if a crowd of zombies is moving down your street, chanting your name, shoot the most effective stuff you've got.
