Question about men and .... SOCKS

Posted on 10/17/2008 10:18:01 AM PDT by PERKY2004

My wonderful DH and I have been married 5.5 years. He is currently deployed to Iraq, so I decided to take inventory and straighten out his dresser drawers, plus the drawers in the closet. (With his blessing and permission, mind you.)

He has socks in 4 different drawers. He has over 80 pairs of socks. Most of his socks are black (work) or white (non-work), with a very few pair of other colors.

Ummm.... is this normal? Socks in 4 different drawers? Over 80 pairs? Or am I just married to a guy who loves his socks?

Molly

I once heard that black socks were prevalent in older, low grade porn movies. Hope that helps.

I'm assuming you're serious in asking about this, and I'm retired military, so I may actually have a clue. He probably wears combat boots 12-14 hours a day on a normal day. A couple of pairs of spare socks per day is a good idea to avoid a ferocious case of athlete's foot. In the Air Force, and subject to regulation changes, which happen every few years, but may differ for the Army or Marines, we were allowed to wear a pair of white socks under a pair of black socks. That alone would double the number of pairs he'd need. Some people are sensitive to the dye in the socks, and the white socks underneath help a bit. It could also be that he was planning on dumping some socks and his plans were OBE’d (overcome by events) so he didn't get to do it. Preparation for deployment can do that to ya!

I think that in order to fully comprehend the issue about the DH (designated hitter) we need more information...

For starters...who is the designated pitcher and the designated catcher in the household?

Wow. I had no idea that a simple hosiery fetish could be so .... dangerous. Your frank warning has been noted and appropriately considered.

Men do not throw socks away.

I seem to be married to an exception. The man throws away ANYTHING that has a hole or seems to be in poor physical shape.

This wouldn't bother me except he doesn't usually tell me that he just threw away most of my socks and underpants. I usually realize this while standing naked in a towel thinking, "Didn't we just do laundry? Where the heck is my underwear?"

We are cavemen. We stock up on stuff and once we make a decision, we don’t want to bother with it again..... ever.

My Bride and I are approaching our 38th year together. Many years ago, bless her heart, she made the mistake of trying to toss a few old clothing items, ‘once’... she wont do that again, that’s sacred ground.

Leave my stuff alone...heck, I might have plans for that old stuff, and even if I don’t, I might come up with one. ;>)

I informed her that when it comes to my stuff, she only needs to get concerned if she finds that I am buying my own new underwear.... if that happens, be afraid, be very afraid.

Thanks Listenhillary! Yeh, my husband has had trouble with them falling down. I try to get the calf length since they look better when the legs are crossed. Now I have to find white ones also...... Thanks for your help. Off to JCPenny I go. :-)

Don’t mess with a man’s undergarments.

This just shows that he is an unusually caring husband...for example when I can't find a pair of socks to wear (frequent occurance since my son started wearing the same size) I have a tendecy to fuss at my wife.

Your husband, on the other hand, has thoughtfully stashed enough socks around the house that it is unlikely he will ever need to yell at you about no clean socks!

I recommend you leave everything as it is. If you don't then don't cry when he yells at you about no clean socks!

A college student once remarked that the cost of a load of wash at the laundromat was 3 quarters and 1 sock.

Are all four drawers full of socks or are they mixed in with other clothes? If they're mixed, maybe he's just lost track of how many socks he's got?

My husband owns what is technically referred to as a "metric butt ton" of socks. It's just a thing with him.

Now, as a former military wife, let me caution you about t-shirts. Make sure you separate the plain white t's from white t's with words or pictures on them. They MUST go in separate drawers.

Otherwise you will be woken up most mornings as hubby turns the lights on trying to distinguish between a plain white t suitable for underneath the uniform shirt and a t with writing.
