We went to Harbor Freight one time... looked at the nail guns and decided they were crap, but we got a cheap tile saw that has worked beautifully for us so far and taught us enough that next time we’ll feel justified in buying a more expensive one, if need be.

But yeah, mostly crap.

Harbor Freight is where he's gotten some cheaper tools, that he knew wouldn't last too long, but were fine for the time needed. Mostly he uses his old Craftsman hand tools, and a few newer ones he's gotten at HD or Lowe's. I bought him a couple of Japanese hand saws when Clare and I were in Tokyo.

With power tools and such, it's almost always Makita, or, as in my supercharged sander, Festool. We found an awesome set of a Makita screwdriver and drill at HD just before Christmas. They're both cordless, and very lightweight. The batteries aren't super powerful, but they charge quickly. They're particularly good for working overhead; your arms don't get so tired. He bought the set for me, but he's the one who's mostly using them. We're waiting for them to go on sale again, so we can get a set for him. ;o)
