True that, and the JWs don't even celebrate birthdays! That's just WRONG!
And I have to wonder if the Amish would ever allow photovoltaic panels on their roofs to provide for electricity. Is their objection to electricity just the 'modernity' of it, or just that in order to get it, you had to be connected to a grid. If they have solar panels, they can provide their own. And in the evening, no problem, because they're used to not having lights, anyway! They could actually use an electric vehicle to provide power storage for any extra energy that's not used during the day.
Or how about 'cold fusion', if that gets going? They could have their own little power plant!
One of those things that just makes me go, Hmmm.
It would be good for you to have an ‘equalizer’, LCS! ;o)
Whoa! Run on, Super Funkle!!
I think it is the relative "luxury" of it that they would eschew. They're all about "plain" living, and electricity along with powered machinery is just too fancy. The plain-ness is not to shut out modernity per se, but envy, covetousness and the like. I think. But I'm no expert on the topic.
It’s the convenience they object to. Heck, a lot of Amish don’t permit buttons, because they are too convenient.
Actually, their resistance to electricity and cars, etc. is based on the Scripture in Romans about not being conformed to the world. The Old Order Amish believe that connecting power lines, modern conveniences, etc. would cause them to conform.
There are varying degrees among the Amish, and the Mennonites regarding what they will and will not accept.
You have to admit there’s a certain attraction to “not being conformed” to the current American government...
Yah... just ask General Motors about that. Lucky for them though, Obama and Pelosifrankdodd have stepped forward to bring their years of productive manufacturing expertise to bear on the problem. [Whew] All their troubles are over, now. GM is trading down 30% from their morning open.
I'd love to see one, too. But I doubt there's one that would just screw in like a choke tube, like the "hole saw" adapter on my Remington. In fact, considering the hugh amount of "choking" a spreader has to do, it probably has to be welded to the barrel. If it was easy, it would already be on the market.
I've seen Amish stores where electricity and phone lines go into a little shed, and they use cordless phones to talk on. Apparently battery power and wireless are theologically okay, but nothing hard-wired.
Go Mennonite, where they use lots of modern technology, except for horse-and-buggy, and old-time clothes.
Your correct. The DB was welded / silver soldered to the barrel. I loved em. May have to MAKE me a few.
Stay safe.
It depends on the order with the Amish as well as the Mennonite. Some are more strict than others.
I’m having a Corin day. Comcast was here, disabled my existing setup, but won’t be able to put in the new cable service till Wednesday, so no watching ‘24’. On the other hand, I’ll have Broadband then, and can watch it on the Web.
Comcast is the Antichrist.

The kitchen utensils are stainless-and-black, and their refrigerator doesn't convey; also, now is the time to move my washer and dryer down the road, almost exactly twenty years since the delivery men dropped them three feet to the asphalt in my apartment's parking lot. And I want a freezer in the garage.
Pictures soon! And I need color advice ... I think some paint is going to have to be applied in the living areas, as the wall color reminds me of pancake makeup, medium. Yetch.
As it happens, tomorrow morning, I will be getting my hair done ... directly across the street from a scratch-and-dent appliance warehouse. I foresee a browsing trip in my immediate future ...
One thing I learned years ago about freezers in the garage: Either check it daily or have a temperature sensor which notifies you if the temperature inside goes up. Failure to do this can have VERY negative results.
Heh. It sometimes takes me years to decide on a paint color.
There’s always Woodlawn Bedroom White.
I thought their objection to buttons was because they reminded them of the military uniforms back in their German homeland.
