We're moving apace ... inspection is tomorrow afternoon, and I will be in attendance, with my camera and my tape measure.

The kitchen utensils are stainless-and-black, and their refrigerator doesn't convey; also, now is the time to move my washer and dryer down the road, almost exactly twenty years since the delivery men dropped them three feet to the asphalt in my apartment's parking lot. And I want a freezer in the garage.

Pictures soon! And I need color advice ... I think some paint is going to have to be applied in the living areas, as the wall color reminds me of pancake makeup, medium. Yetch.

As it happens, tomorrow morning, I will be getting my hair done ... directly across the street from a scratch-and-dent appliance warehouse. I foresee a browsing trip in my immediate future ...

One thing I learned years ago about freezers in the garage: Either check it daily or have a temperature sensor which notifies you if the temperature inside goes up. Failure to do this can have VERY negative results.

Heh. It sometimes takes me years to decide on a paint color.

There’s always Woodlawn Bedroom White.

Excellent! We've gotten almost all our appliances over the years from the Sears Appliance Outlet stores. We found a beautiful double oven, in which the ovens are BOTH convection and conventional, which sold retail for $1500, and got it for $900. It was brand new, but had a little plug chipped out of the top frame of the thing. Because of the height at which it will be placed in the cabinet, no one except those over 6'4" would ever see it, and even then, they'd have to be looking hard for it!

Can't wait for the kitchen remodel, so we can get it installed!

You're gonna have SO much fun!

What we’ve done in three of the past four room projects we’ve taken on is find an item - a painting, a tapestry, something - that we want as our “touchstone” and then pull colors and themes out of that. The Home Depot has a really great scanner that does well with pulling a color off of a picture/whatever. We used that to get in color families last time and then picked colors a few darker or lighter from their suggestions based on our preferences.

We’re really happy with how our bedroom came out, and the nursery is coming along great.

Hey Bear...I know you guys are busy...but when you get around to it, could you search the archives and tell me when it was that my chickens got killed by the dog?

I can’t remember.

Okay, the first round of inspection is done.

I swear, this house does not want to be photographed! We misplaced the camera's cable in the Great Flood of 2008, and today I left the camera's memory card in my portable, after downloading all the pictures from my cousin's 90th birthday party (which we attended Saturday).

Fortunately, the inspector had a half-dozen spare SD cards, and lent me one. He also took pictures, including this one, possibly the best one of the house:

Stupidly, I took a lot of videos, that did not come out well. But I did notice a lot of details I'd not fully appreciated before. I took many measurements, and the inspector found a few problems --- hail damage on the roof, various issues with the HVAC, a ceiling fan whose light won't come on, a disposal that sounds like it's about to throw a bearing, and a few other glitches. Looks like our so-patient Realtor has more work, and there's gonna be a second round of inspection.

Here's a view from inside the office to the dining room. You can see the arched entryways and the weird paint color of the dining room:

Love the door levers! All the doors in the house have them.

And another view, from inside the dining room. There are three arches that allow access to the dining area; this is the narrowest:

That door is to the second bathroom.

I got real familiar with that icky brown and that dark dirty beige ... want other colors!

As you can (kinda) see, the office is a gorgeous deep emerald green. I like the jeweltone notion --- maybe a nifty sapphire for the dining room, a bright yellowy amber for the kitchen, and a deep garnet accent wall for the living room. The bedrooms can be softer variants on the same colors, and the contrast can be a nicer, cleaner, lighter beige, with winter white trim, doors, and ceilings throughout.

Oooo ... did I just color scheme? <smirk>
